About
This landmark bar in Venice has been around since the 1930s and has seen the likes of celebrities such Ernst Hemingway and Charlie Chaplin. It's known as the birthplace of the Bellini cocktail, so don't miss the chance to try it out, along with their famous carparccio. The dry martini is also a favorite. With its storied history, it's a good idea to have a chat with the friendly bartenders to learn more. For dinner, try some delicious Venetian specialties like the creamed cod. This spot can get pretty crowded, so it’s best to get there early. – Tripadvisor

Neighbourhood: San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.

- alex_selwoodWhiteley, United Kingdom11 contributionsHighly overratedVery, very disappointed. Popped in for a drink. Barman was very indifferent to the point of being rude. Told my wife that there was only one alcohol free option - and then served it straight out of a bottle and charged €13. My old fashioned was average at best. It gave me the impression of a place that is ‘too cool for school’ and is just not trying. Don’t bother. Highly overrated.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 April 2023
- irene sGlenwood Landing, New York24 contributionsGreat Bellinis. Pricey.A bit tough to find. Only sign is etched on the very slim door and around the corner on the windows. Pricey but cool upscale-locals vibe. Sit at the bar if only for drinks. The bellinis here are made with FRESH peach pureè instead of peach syrup like most other places. I really liked the smooth Prosecco Cipriani even though I don't enjoy Prosecco very often.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 April 2023
- Becci WBristol, United Kingdom9 contributionsOverrated, overpriced, underwhelmed. What a disappointing experience! I appreciate the history of the venue and that it’s the birthplace of the Bellini, but this does not explain the lack of atmosphere. The attitude of the staff was that everyone in there was an inconvenience. This may have been different for the very fancy dressed people dining upstairs, but those of us who came for a drink were all just in the way and the service was really lacking, the ‘hosts’ on the door were laughable, there wasn’t even an effort to smile which I would have expected at a minimum, especially when paying €22 for a very small drink that tasted nice enough but nothing special. Not worth the hype sadly.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 April 2023
- GeordiepetalCounty Durham, United Kingdom42 contributionsGive it a missIt was ok. Overpriced and trading on its reputation alone I would say. Offered small chicken sandwiches to go with our drinks, unclear if this was chargeable or not. Unfortunately we did not just get chicken sandwiches we also got an unpleasant fish and egg mix, this did make for an amusing moment for which we paid an extra 3 euros. The Bellinis were nice but special and not worth 22 euros each. I know you are paying for the experience but all things considered I wouldn’t recommend Harry’sVisited April 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 17 April 2023
- EJT17 contributionsI'd skip itWe went as we told it's a must to go to Harry's for Bellini. It was a very underwhelming experience. Paid through the roof for tiny drinks. My husband had a different cocktail to a Bellini and it was little more than a shot of gin for €25. The Bellini's are €22.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 May 2023
- Thiago TSao Paulo, SP12 contributionsDisappointing Experience: Overpriced Drinks and Poor Service at Harry's BarOur visit to Harry's Bar was a complete letdown. We were enticed by the notion of trying their supposedly legendary Bellini, but the steep price of €22 left us feeling cheated. To make matters worse, the service was horrendous. We were forced to stand uncomfortably by the counter, struggling to enjoy our drinks amidst the cramped space. The waitstaff seemed disinterested, and we had to endure the constant commotion of waiters clumsily colliding with trays. Overall, I cannot stress enough how much I would advise against visiting this place. The exorbitant prices, lackluster drinks, and poor service make it a regrettable experience that is best avoided.Visited June 2023Written 1 June 2023
- CarsonsMommy2,650 contributionsFirst stop on arrival day!If you haven’t visited Harry’s, did you really go to Venice? It was our first stop after dropping our bags at The St Regis, and really set the tone for our trip. Jet lagged and rumpled though we were, we were seated at our requested corner table in the back, between two tables of well dressed, well established Venetians who were obviously regulars. We had a Bellini and perused the menu, observing the many varied dishes our neighbors were served, but sadly we only had an appetite for something light, so I had the baby artichokes which were delicious, light and refreshing and hit the spot! After a lovely, relaxing lunch, we were asked to please return when we had more of an appetite! And we shall! 🥂Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 June 2023
- John N15 contributionsBucket List DisappointmentIt was on the bucket list so we finally went on our tenth visit to Venice. We have had excellent Bellini's and the absolute best is at the Excelsior in Sorrento. Harry's may be the original but it is not the best. In fact it is rather disappointing, and expensive. we did not stay for dinner so we can't comment on the food. But based on our lackluster experience in the bar, we will be going elsewhere on our next visit.Visited June 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 June 2023

Place was packed, air conditioning non existent. Rooms were dark with uninspired decor. Food was average and not proportionally priced to the experience. (Ie. Paid 50 euro for prosciutto with melon). 25 dollars is a lot to pay for a single drink. Even if you only hang out in the super luxe bars of New York and the Côte d’Azur I hope that all reasonable people can agree that 25 dollars…. for …. one… drink…. Is a lot.
I am prepared to pay 25 dollars for a drink. Occasionally only, to be clear, for fear of penury. I prefer paying 6 dollars. But yes I am prepared to pay 25 dollars in the right circumstances. In return, I am expecting a great drink, excellent service, a fine and weighty glass, beautiful surroundings and perhaps some history.
So Dukes in London, The Writers Bar in Singapore, the beautiful Charles H in Seoul. They tick all of these boxes. I love them all. And I am happy to pay for the privilege.
I have been to Venice a fair bit and never been tempted to visit Harry’s Bar. Word was it did not justify these kinds of costs. Hemingway may have liked it just after the war, but the world has moved on since then. It was now just a tourist trap for the foolish and unwary.
In a moment of weakness this week, on my way to dinner, walking past the door to Harry’s I succumbed. How bad could it be I thought to myself? It seems busy. The people in there didn’t all look like tourists; perhaps I had this wrong….
That moment of weakness was a mistake.
This was apocalyptically bad.
52 dollars for two gin and tonics…. Deep breath … Gin. And. Tonic. Not some labour intensive, crushed artisan cocktail involving obscure aromatics and the knees of virgins…. But a gin and tonic. Not a choice of gins either.
And I had to pour the tonic myself. Out of a can. That I had to open. Into …. What… not some chunky lead crystal glass that made me feel like a Bond villain….but rather the kind of dishwasher safe glasses petrol stations used to give away for free. In a room badly in need of a lick of paint, with all the decorative flair of a Warsaw Pact youth hostel (what is this colour?), tables jammed in like pins in a bowling alley - and guests bounced around nearly as much. And service as ice cool as … well I don’t know … but a smile from the staff required something more from me clearly.
These are not so much first world problems as super first world problems. But we all get to choose how to spend our money. And my strong, strong recommendation is not to spend your money (or anyone else’s) in Harry’s Bar.

I love visiting legendary establishments and have no qualms about paying over the odds for good food or drink. BUT I don’t like being ripped off. 24Euros for a whiskey sour that was smaller than a breakfast juice glass. Wanted to stop in for a cool refreshing drink but this experience barely wet my lips. Get a grip Harry’s Bar and stop ripping people off.

We came here expecting the counterpart of Harry’s Bar in Paris and were sorely disappointed. I’m sure there’s some important/historical meaning behind this bar and the Bellini’s they kept serving but that’s not what we were here for. The ambiance was flat, there was no music, the tables were low, it was overcrowded and ridiculously overpriced. The average drink price was €24 when you can get cocktails in any bar for 1/4 of the price. Not to mention, the drink was the size of a sippy cup. Again, I’m sure there’s a reason many people come to this bar, but if you’re looking for the Venetian Harry’s from Paris or just to have an apperitivo before dinner, I wouldn’t recommend coming here.

Popped in for a Bellini just to experience it as was told it’s a must do place. It was incredibly busy (but it was a Saturday afternoon) but managed to get a table fairly quickly. Had a Bellini each and left. It was a nice Bellini but as mentioned by many it was very pricey. As it was a special occasion we just accepted it. It was crowded but there are a lot of staff so food and drinks arrive very quickly. Was it as special as I thought it would be? No.

Determined to visit Harry’s Bar myself & four friends left a wonderful restaurant and wound our way to this ‘iconic’ spot only to come face to face with a deluge of ignorance & rudeness. Almost empty and pretty dinghy, we didn’t get one smile from the staff & were told we could only sit at the bar for our €24 drink! Understandable as we weren’t eating but a tad confusing as the place was empty! It took us less than two minutes to agree that no, we weren’t spending our money here & not because of the price but because of the blatant rudeness of the staff. Awful experience. Ignorant beyond belief.

We arrived for lunch today without a reservation and were directed to one of only two tables available. Both tables were in the middle of an already overcrowded seating area.
The restaurant was extremely hot and as we perused the menu we were constantly being bumped into by the waiting staff who were having to squeeze by the overcrowded tables.
Needless to say we decided not to dine here !
We found a fabulous local restaurant which was far more appealing and comfortable with exceptional service and a very local clientele.

If Harry's is on your bucket list....do it! We arrived just after 11am on a Saturday, the staff were friendly and attentive. Brought us a menu, took the order, yes, I had a bellini, and a small bowl of olives arrived with our drinks. The bar itself hasn't changed much I'm guessing since the 30s, which for me made it even cooler! Yes, the drinks are expensive but they are in St Mark's too, I had a buzz in Harry's, hope you do too!

Highly overpriced food with poor service. Ordered a Bellini and some food with a glass of wine. They brought the food almost immediately without checking that I was only half way through my Bellini. I regret that I didn’t insist that they take the food back and let me first enjoy my cocktail. Won’t be back.

It’s my fault for not checking the reviews and going on historical reputation alone. The most disappointing experience we had in Venice. I know it’s still decorated “as was” in its mid 20th century heyday but in 2024 it just comes across as zero atmosphere. The staff are diffident at best, almost like customers are an annoyance. The food is sub par, certainly compared to every place else we ate in Venice, and then you come to the prices! €40 for a chicken salad appetiser that consisted of a few strips of chicken stacked into a pyramid, garnished with two slices of tomato and some iceberg lettuce. No cultural or historical significance can justify this level of price gouging. Enjoy Venice for all the beauty that it offers but give this place a miss. It’ll simply leave you with a bad taste in your mouth, and considerably poorer!

Best Bellinis in Venice are at Osteria Banderia.
Which is in Campo Bandiera e Moro o de la Bragora.
A lovely little square, just off the main drag.
Vivaldi was christened in the church in the campo.
Be aware......the bells are rung on most days, to wake you up.
Not a problem for me, I find it quite refreshing.

I was turned away and I was wearing nice short pants (it was a warm August day), a nice polo shirt and docksider shoes.
It was our only unpleasant experience while visiting Italy.
But no argument from us. We turned around without giving the guy any lip and spent our euros elsewhere and laughed at the experience. Such is life. Go with the Flow.

It is outrageously priced and, unless you are happy to pay €21 for a Bellini it really is not worth going into. Venice has lots more decent bars and restaurants than it did 15 years ago so simply take your custom elsewhere. I have been going to Venice for 35 years and would not dream of going for a drink at Harry's anymore.
