The museum is presented as harbouring art from late 19th to early 20th C which is a great period for non contemporary museums. The problem was that it wasnt exhibited (except for a handful of paintings in the stair hall). It was all about contemporary exhibitions of varying interest.

When we are visiting this wonderful city we make a point of visiting this museum. The exhibitions have never disappointed and once again they are staging a fascinating exhibition on the works of Sukhothai Sipila and Greta Hällfors-Sipilä. If you are in the city this is an exhibition that should definitely be on your to do list.
The museum is a fine historical structure in its own right and is well worth exploring. There is a cafe that serves good food and coffee and it’s a wonderful place to take a break.

This is a fine art museum with a variety of stages in Finland's art history. It is a venerable old building which itself is fascinating.. I marveled at the main stair case of gleaming polished wood.

I can’t even start describing my joy from my visit. The art works were amazing, Finnish history in paint and sculpture. I was also lucky to catch Modern Woman exhibition. And the little coffee shop downstairs that serves coffee in the cutest small mixed designed cups and delicious treats.

Only downside side for me was the the museum itself could be even bigger.

The museum is beautiful on it's own, the exhibitions were interesting too. On display are some of the most well-known Finnish art pieces. I also enjoyed the museum cafe.

This national romantic granite museum building on a top of a hill is one of the most prominent landmarks in Turku. It was completed in 1904 and is the second building in Finland built specifically as a museum.

Here you can find a comprehensive art collection. The museum's collection includes more than 7,600 works. Some of the collection is constantly on display in the museum's changing collection exhibitions.

On our visit, there was also a colorful photograph exhibition by Senegalese contemporary artist Omar Victor Diop.

At Cafe Victor is worth taking a break while exploring the exhibitions.

The museum is located atop Puolalanmäki hill in a beautiful granite stone-castle from 1904. The building is a fine example of the national romantic style and one of the most prominent landmarks in Turku.

The permanent exhibitions on the 2nd floor provide fascinating art, from iconic pieces to the very latest contemporary artworks.

The museum presents also temporary exhibitions. On our visit, there were colorful works by the designer and ceramicist Birger Kaipiainen.

In some cities visit an art museum can really be an exhausting experience, but the one in Turku isn't that big, so it won't take the whole day to visit it. One thing that have always astonished me is that in they in spite of being quite small always mange to receive good and prestigious special exhibitions. We actually went there to see one like this, the exhibition of Emil Nolde's art. It was really good and gave a good overview of his entire production. Once being in the museum, we decided also to visit the standard exhibition upstairs which contains both art by classical Finnish painters but also some contemporary ones. We ended our visit by having coffee in the nice café downstairs that also serves lunch. I think that the museum is also worth a visit because of the building itself that looks especially impressive from outside situated on the top of the hill overlooking the city.
