Truly enjoyed my experience at this location. The area is gorgeous, the cave is beautiful, and the boat ride is entertaining. The young man leading us was very knowledgeable and friendly. This is well worth your time.

Accurate as of April 2022.

I decided to write this review as it was quite difficult to find information online about visiting the Moravian karst from Brno by public transport, and it was well worth the visit!!!

The famous Punkva cave and Katerina cave are in the same area and you can visit both on the same day.

- take train/bus from Brno main station to Blankso (approx 30 mins, cost 34 CZK single). These are relatively frequent
- take bus 226 from Blankso bus station to Skalni Mlyn (approx 10 mins, cost 10 CZK single). NB this is the limiting step as although it is a short bus journey, they do not run often
- when you arrive at Skalni Mlyn, the walk to Punkva entrance is 30-40 mins (or you can pay for a transporter). NB during summer months, you should book online tickets months in advance. This tour lasts 1 hour and includes a boat ride at the end. The walk to Katerina entrance is 10 mins. This tour lasts 40 mins.
I would definitely recommend both.

Hope that helps!

Had visited the caves with my Czech wife a few years back and decided to give it another go for the sake of my seven year old son. Although the weather at the time wasn't great, this was soon forgotten once in the cave. Booking is essential, particularly during the school holidays. From the ticket office, there are a few options to get down to the cave entrance. A short cable car ride , a mock train/bus ride or a walk. We opted to buy return tickets for the cable car which was fine. At the entrance there is the odd gift shop and a cafe restaurant for souvenirs. Entrance is strictly by time slot, however there is a covered reception area in which to wait. my son loved the caves and boat ride. Only point to note is that at one point there are quite a few steps to climb, so people with mobility issues take note.

We drove from Bruno and it took about 40 minutes. The cave tour lasts about an hour. Starts with a walk thru some of the best limestone flows we have seen and ends with an almost km long boat ride to the exit tunnel. This area has several caves within 30 minutes drive. We were able to do two since we got a late start. If in Bruno this is a great day out into the surrounding area. We were there in September and tours started at 900 and ended at 1600 for all caves. Keep this in mind if trying to go to multiple caves. Also the schedule really drops off in October and more again in November. The tours all started at the top of the hour.

We had a driver pick us up in Krakow and it was a quick drive to the caves and then we stayed at the back of the tour where our guide quietly explained everything in English. If you haven't visited many underground caves, I can see how this would be an amazing sight.
I have been to several underground labyrinths and so the only reason for my 3/5 rating is because I'm comparing this one to others that I've experienced.
The caves in Beirut and the Waitomo caves in New Zealand are on a different scale.
Having said that, I'm not sorry that we did this activity, the caves and the boat ride were still interesting to see and do.

This is a beautiful area of Moravia and favorite spot for bikers, hikers, families with small children and even pensioners like us. Several cavern systems can be admired, we chose the Punkva cave hour long tour, and then used the cable car to get to the top to see the Macocha abyss. There is an area at the top, few steps from the top cable station with kiosks selling souvenirs, beverages, ice cream and snacks and a sit down restaurant, which we did not visit due to time constraint, but the outdoor seating looked inviting. Lots of people hiked from the top down.

This was one of the best experiences ever! We had a guide take us from Brno to the caves. So glad she handled the specifics. (as most areas there cash is king) We took the little train up to the cave entrance. The English phamplet described each spot perfectly. The boat ride out was awesome! Seeing the bottom of the abyss was beautiful! We rode the cable car up and viewed the abyss from above. Overall nice experience and peaceful. Would strongly recommend.

Very special region next to Brno with very profound history and natural value. Many caves opened for public, rock climbing for all grades, great for cycling, running, local food products (goat cheese), places of architectural importannce (Křtiny).

An amazing experience. We were lucky to join an American group for an English tour of the main caves. The structures are just fantastic. Don't miss the boat ride in the underground river. The other caves are also great - there's one which is used for music concerts! Simply amazing.
