Great place

Really old Castello, it feels like you’re in a medieval movie, little hiking to the top, classic European construction with a nice view from the castle.

worthy of your time

We can see these tiny castle ruins from our house, we "storm" the castle and then treat ourselves with the best gelato ever at Borc gelato in the tiny city center. We enjoy coming up here for the view and the exercise. It beautiful and as others have said a great place for photo opportunities. There isn't a lot left of it, though it looks pretty intact from the bottom its not. The front façade is intact the rest is in complete ruin, though it is worth having a look at. You are free to roam around it, it isn't guarded so you can explore at will and no fees are charged. Whenever we have company from the states we bring them up here and its always enjoyed with photos, oohs and aahs and sometimes a picnic. The view over the valley and the view over this part of Polcenigo is excellent and worth the climb up. Some of the rooms still have parts of the murals and wainscoting on the walls, and several of the rooms and fireplaces are still there. All in all if your in the neighborhood you should go up to these ruins of the Counts of Polcenigo home. Its a bit of a climb at a steep angle on cobblestones so its not very accessible for handicapped especially if its wet out. No matter how many times I go up I'm always short of breath when I get to the top. There are informational signs about its history on the right just as you get to the church, in Italian and English. The church is usually locked up, though not always and be aware that the building on the right is now a private home. It is safe to take your children there, in certain spots you will need to keep and eye on them. You can walk on the ledge around to the other side which is great for photos and for viewing the town and valley from a birds eye view.

Great Hike!

It's quite a climb to the top, prepare to be out of breath! Also, bring water as there is nothing at the top except ruins and a fantastic view.

This is in my town and my favorite time of the year to go is fall, when the leaves are pretty. Makes for wonderful pictures.

Be careful on the climb up - if it's wet, the stones are very slippery.

Beautiful view from the castle

It was a nice little hike up to the hill where the castle (or the ruins) is. There is also a small and beautiful church along the way that we checked out before going up. From the castle, you can have a beautiful view of the quaint town. The castle itself (despite its present state) is still beautiful and there's a lot of photo opportunities there. Simply a nice experience to have visited Polcenigo.

The ruins offer a glimpse of life long ago. It's a perfect location for pictures! Great view from the top as well.

Castle ruins
11/2014 • Pariskunnat
These are ruins of a castle originally built in the 1200-1300s. It was destroyed a rebuilt several times, so you can see bits of different types of architecture. Be careful, the path up to it is steep and can be slippery.
