Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited this church during our journey on the Via Francigena, leg from Pontremoli to Villafranca. Arriving on foot increases the charm of its apparition.
For those living in central Tuscany, Lunigiana is a disturbing experience. We immediately feel that we are in am inusual region, shaped by its condition as a border region, hybrid as there are few in Italy, with strong characteristics of transit land. All lands are somehow "also" of transit, but in Lunigiana transit appears to be a destiny, shaped by a history of transits that relies on a geography favorable to them.
The Pieve di Sorano well symbolizes this Lunigiana's condition. Located at the foot of the town of Filattiera, next to an important road, both in the past (the Lombard "Monte Bardone road") and in current times (the #62 national road), it isn't in the center of a town, but outside it, as if it were a gas station. It is as if it said: I am not at the service of the place, but of those who pass by here.
Of course it isn't so, in fact. This is not a simple parish church, but a "pieve" (from the Latin "plebs", people). That is, it's a church with the right to baptize. A pieve is a "central place", it has under it a series of other churches scattered throughout the surrounding area.
Its proto-Romanesque architecture, with simple walls and harmonious apses, recalls that of many churches of its time, especially in Lombardy.
It's simple and awe-inspiring. Not to be missed.
