- Tom YWausau, Wisconsin170 contributionsOtherworldy SceneryAmazing rim drive, great hiking. Worth the detour. If you only have a limited amount of time the overlook drive is well worth it. Highly recommended that you try some hiking too.Visited March 2023Written 20 March 2023
- JW041Evansville, Indiana352 contributionsBeautiful, most of the park closedVisited 4-1-23. Most of the park was closed but you still had to pay full ticket price of $35. The very few spots that were open had full parking lots with cars forming a line waiting for a parking spot. Sometimes I waited at least 10 minutes in line simply for a place to park. The sidewalks were covered in snow. Some sections had multiple feet of snow. Everyone was crammed in trying to take photos. But, the hoodoos look even more amazing with snow.Visited April 2023Travelled soloWritten 7 April 2023
- SmittywallBad Axe, Michigan67 contributionsBeautiful park, even with some of it closed. My wife and I went at the end of March. Bryce point was super icy, we shouldn't have left the microspikes in the car. Also went to all 3 Inspiration points and walked from Sunset to Sunrise points. Microspikes were very helpful especially at Inspiration point. Pro tip, there is a rest stop just before the park, very clean, no lines, much better than Visitor center restroom. Would like to go back when Navajo Loop is open.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 April 2023
- Love2Travel98443 contributionsBeautiful even with frigid weatherWe watched the temps and conditions at Bryce for several weeks before our trip and luckily packed for the single-digit temperature and bracing wind conditions. The main lookout area (Bryce Point) was filled with deep snow, leaving the top handrail about knee height. Very icy, which made the visit rather scary. HOWEVER, the views were incredible and so worth the scares! The snow made everything very magical and we were glad we braved the weather. The lines into the small parking areas were long and parking spots were very limited; I can only imagine what it must be like when the tourist season gets in full swing.... We are not hikers, so driving into different areas and seeing the scenery was enough for us.Visited April 2023Written 10 April 2023
- KatiePlymouth, Massachusetts208 contributionsVery Pretty and Very BusyWe came here about a week after a snow storm, so only the first eleven miles of the park were open. Most of the hikes were also closed due to the snow. Because of that, we were only able to stop at the viewpoints. Even under those circumstances, the park was still very crowded. The amphitheater was very cool to see, but you really didn’t need much time to take it all in. It seems like the whole park just that one view, but we also didn’t see the whole park. Out of all the national parks in Utah, this was probably my least favorite. I still did like the park, though.Visited April 2023Travelled with familyWritten 23 April 2023
- Ruthsmum212 contributionsFascinating water-carved geologyWe were touring the area and reached Bryce Canyon at about sunset. It is a very strange landscape, the interplay of the climate, the effects of water, and the geology. I found it more exciting than the Grand Canyon - possibly because the GC is so well known that I knew what to expect (I was still impressed). I recommend it strongly. Also, if you live in a safety-conscious country, take your local health and safety person here and watch them . . .Visited June 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 May 2023
- Bruce CPescadero, California301 contributionsExcellent moderate hikeHiked through Queen Gardens and Victoria Garden to Peekaboo Loop and then back as Navajo Loop was closed as was Bryce Point to Inspiration Point trail. - Verne KSilver Spring, Maryland432 contributionsThe Prettiest NPWe've been to Bryce twice before, many years ago. Still one of the most amazing places to visit, but it's at an high elevation (8,000-9,100ft), and this is troublesome for those with respiratory problems. Numerous trails are present. We stayed at Bryce Canyon Lodge, which is fantastic, but no TV.Visited May 2023Written 28 May 2023
- Melaney68Chesapeake Beach, Maryland9,621 contributionsApril Can Be Dicey! We had visited in April previously but this time Mother Nature was not on our side. The snow was deep and continued to fall and the majority of the park was closed. However, the hoodoos never disappoint and we were able to hike along the ridge of a few trails for some spectacular photos.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 May 2023
- EvBeEDenver, Colorado218 contributionsBeautiful rock formationsWe were pulling a 27 foot 5th wheel and were not permited to drive to the various view points along the rim route. FYI - if your RV/trailer is over 20 feet you are required to take a shuttle. No problem -park in the large parking lot across from the Visitor's Center. The Shuttle comes every 15 minutes. Parking lots along the shuttle route were pretty full even for first week in May, so would recommend the shuttle any time. Many drop off locations. All require you to walk to the viewpoint area. You cannot see the beautiful rock formations from the road. Beautiful views. Lots of hiking trails.Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 May 2023

This National Park was stunning! Being from Florida, we’ve never seen anything quite like this. The hoodoos are beautiful! During the winter season- we consider March Spring-the town is closed for the most part but the park is open and the trails are breathtaking! We even had an unexpected brief snow storm!

My girlfriend and I were staying at a friends cabin in Duck Creek and took the drive up to and through Bryce Canyon. I've been here several time but it was the first time for my girlfriend and it was breath taking for her. Bryce is amazing at sunrise and sunset, and I absolutely suggest being there around one of those times.

We stayed 2 nights in Bryce Canyon City which is only a 10 minute drive to the Bryce Canyon NP. We stayed at Ruby's Inn Best Western and I would recommend staying here. We had a full day in the park. We drove around the rim stopping at Bryce Point and Inspiration Point to soak in the magnificent hoodoos which rise from the canyon floor. We started our trail at Sunset Point and walked the Two Bridges and Queen Victoria Garden Trail which was a loop finishing at Sunrise Point. We then walked back to Sunset Point. Fabulous walk. The ground was a bit muddy, icey and slushy with snow having fallen the week before. We hired cleats from Ruby's Inn at a cost of $10.00 each which were well worth the hire. It made for a non slippery walk. We were so lucky to see the canyon partially covered in snow to enhance the beauty. In the afternoon we walked the Rim Trail from Bryce Point to Sunset Point and back again. Absolutely fabulous with stunning views of the canyon. You will enjoy.

One of the most beautiful places I have been to in my life. It truly took my breath away and has some really fun hikes to really immerse yourself in. Honestly more impressive than the Grand Canyon.

This has been on my bucket list for several years now. We finally got a chance to get to Bryce and it was well worth the wait. We hiked down into the canyon and I failed to research the fact that Bryce Canyon is 9000ft above sea level. The hiking is a little tougher because of the thin air so keep that in mind.

I had been to Bryce Canyon before, but only the Summertime. Going in November was amazing. It was cold, which was better for hiking. And the lack of crowds (especially before 10am) gave us many opportunities for photos that I never could have had during a Summertime visit. Starting at Queen's Garden Trail and ending at Navajo Loop Trail was a perfect way to see just about the entire park with just a half-day visit.

Torn between skipping the peakaboo loop and heading to Zion for the remainder of the day. At least take in the drive/beauty to Springdale and maybe grab a Zion brew.
Should we continue with the figure 8 or make the drive? What’s the pro for spending more time on the peakaboo trail?
James C
Williamsburg, VA1,104 contributions
The peekaboo trail loop originating from Bryce Point is strenuous and about 5-6 miles. Also, check with the NPS to ensure the trails are open. Storms have shut them down and may not currently be open. Drive to the point, then if problematic head to Springdale for spirits and a good time in town.

This is not for every animal, but you are supposed to seek higher ground, not turn your back on the animal, and act large. Also, throwing things like rocks are also helpful.

Have a three night reservation at the Lodge at Bryce Canyon in late summer. We anticipate crowds so plan to rise early (at dawn) to do hikes, before relaxing in the afternoon. Have some questions for those of you who have traveled to Bryce Canyon and or stayed at the lodge: 1) what is the best time of day to arrive in the area to avoid congestion driving in the park? Am thinking that if we got close to the area around 2:30 in the afternoon, hopefully the drive to the lodge would be less hectic than arriving in the morning; 2) which route is less tiresome on Queensland trail (go down switchbacks rather than up?); 3) What time of day is less congested for traveling south on Highway 89 towards Zion? Is the view better when driving south on the highway than the reverse? [I read that somewhere] Thank you! DM

I can one this with a great deal of certainty. We arrived at the parkaround2:00pm and drove the complete loop with little to no traffic issues. (All things considered). Not a bad time to do. And even got the Wall Street loop hike in.

Just wondering if taking in the Arches and Bryce would be too much for a 3 day trip. If I make it out there I really want to see both since I probably won’t get another trip.
I haven’t looked at travel times from the SLC airport yet...sorry! Maybe I start at Arches then head to Bryce? Which makes the most sense if it’s doable?

I thought a day in Bryce was satisfactory. While I’d love to spend a few days, I don’t feel like I missed out by a day trip. I’ll get my hiking done in other parks.

We are planning a trip around Christmas to Bryce with kids. How many days do you think we should do, and should we try to do Zion as well? We are hoping for snow. Thanks for your help!

We preferred bryce canyon to zion but you can do both. With kids, if you're planning to hike is plan on 2 days anyway

Hi, we will be visiting Bryce in 3 weeks and wondering how crowded it is right now. With COVID, I am a bit concerned about the crowds on the trams as well as popular trails. And, we have reservations at Bryce Canyon Lodge in the park which may be busy and difficult to social distance. Lastly, are masks common or mixed? Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.

There are dozens of trails and plenty of space on each one. I wouldn't worry about that. I wouldn't take the tram, no matter where it was, but there is plenty of parking. Since you are staying there, be sure to go out well after sunset. The stars are amazing here. The only place that compares is Death Valley, but this beats that.

I am planning on doing some longer day hiking in Bryce on September 8th and 9th. How should I plan to dress? I am not sure how hot or cold it could get. Not sure how many layers I should pack, will I need pants or shorts, and is a light jacket good enough to get me through? Do I need a warm hat or gloves in the mornings/evenings?
Suggestions for that time of year please!

If I only have 5 hours total in Bryce, I don't need to hear I need more time I don't have it. Do I do the best of and take the drive around and stop it all the stops do I shorten that and pick one hike to do one to two hours like the Queen's garden any suggestions.

From that one trailhead to Queen’s Garden, you’ll find ways to lengthen your hike to match your time and fitness level. After a stop at the visitor center to orient yourself and get a map, a five hour visit will provide a fine introduction to and sampling of this magnificent area. In three April visits here, a college geology tour I accompanied never spent more time than that there.

To enter Bryce NP by car you have to pay $35. With bus transfers you pay $ 20 per person. If you have a anual park pass the admittance is free. You can buy the annual parkpass for $80 en this pass is valid for a lot of NP throughout te US.
