Lovely Local Market
7/2018 • Perhe
We had a lovely Saturday morning here, nice market with fruits, cheeses & meats/fish amoungst other things. We were staying at Centre Parcs de Eemhof, if you go to the marina area on the park and look over the water that is Sprakenburg. We drove round which was about 25mins, just trust the sat nav! Nice restaurants and lovely port/marina area. We parked at the port area and walked round.

worth coming if you stay around - not a tourist market
10/2017
we stayed at Centre Parc in De Eemhof, and were looking for something interesting to do on Saturday, not far away.

its not a huge market - but you can find cheese booths, fish, sweets, clothing and other nice staff. the thing is, by the look of it, its a local market, and the tourists that come are mostly a few from the Parc. so you do not get the commercialized feeling you get from more central or known markets.

there is a nice small Harbour, which i am sure that in a better weather is more than welcoming. but we came on a cold rainy day, so did not venture too much into the alleys of the small town.

but i think its worth the time, and the leisure environment you get there,

Love Sparkenburg

Great Saturday afternoon to be had with good weather and very interesting people. Love the traditionally dressed ladies and gents which graced the market. Fish to be had everywhere and delicious it was too. Sitting on the steps of the small harbour enjoying the sunshine and kibbeling. Delicious day out. Would definitely recommend.

The most interesting Dutch Saturday market I have seen so far
12/2016 • Pariskunnat
I think Saturday markets are part of Dutch tradition which one can find in almost any cities, towns, and villages in the Netherlands. I have visited a lot of such markets but I would say the Saturday market in Spakenburg is the most interesting one.

Like any other Dutch Saturday Market, it mainly consists of people selling things. However, this one seems to be much more traditional compared to others. Wandering around there is a nice activity. Some sell fish-based foods that are tasty. Unfortunately, they are a little bit more expensive compared to those I found in other cities.

I strongly recommend others to visit this place.

Spakenburg is a former fishers village in the Netherlands. In the old harbour you can find a lot of old 'botters', which present a lovely view. Be sure to visit on a saturday, when the town is bubbling and busy thanks to the saturday market. Be amazed at the quality of local restaurants and pubs and pleasantly surprised at the few older ladies still waring their lovely historic costumes.

Authentic Dutch Saturday market
4/2016 • Pariskunnat
Lovely Dutch market selling all sorts of fruit and vegetables plus clothing and kitchenware. Some of the local woman are dressed in traditional costume. Best value are the flowers - I bought 50 tulips for 5 euros and they are still flowering back in the UK!
The village itself is very picturesque with the fishing boats.

Dutch market, how a dutch market should be
2/2016
Join on saturdy morning. Starting about 11.00hrs all entrepreneurs open their market place. After a little shopping plenty of choice for a coffee or lunch. Surrounding the marketplace are several cafe's, serving coffee and lunch. For a relaxte saterday morning shopping and walking.

Great prices, good quality
8/2015 • Pariskunnat
Whereas most markets have low prices but corresponding lower quality (exceptions excluded), this market has it all. Lots of fresh vegetables and fruits, incredibly low prices but top quality! Sometimes not even 1/3 of the price you would pay in the supermarket.

Then there are the clothing booths: no brand articles, but fun, fashionable clothing at low prices.

And of course: fish! The history of the town can be found on every corner of the street. Lots of choices of fresh fish: fried, battered, cooked, broiled. Great flavours! Try "kibbeling'.

Finally: if you are lucky you will see some women in traditional costumes. They are not there for the tourists, this is the way they dress!

The Real Dutch Market
5/2015 • Kaverit
When you have guests from other country you will show them what the real Dutch stuff is. As volendam is very commercial with all the tourists, I chose this village. This fisherman village with a small harbour gives you a feeling that you're really in a Dutch village. The saturday market is very nice. A lot of stands sell fish or sea food but also flower, clothes, vegetable and fruit and all your daily needs. One particular thing, you will see women walk around in their traditional costume, very beautiful.

A little bit of Dutch life
8/2014 • Perhe
We were staying in Amersfoort and caught the public bus to Bunschoten-Spakenburg. Spakenburg is an old fishing village which is now a bit inland, due to land reclamation. Just looking from the bus at the houses, churches, canals, and parks, was interesting. The Saturday Market in Spakenburg sells all the usual stuff of a Dutch open market. There are a lot of tourists in Spakenburg, and they are almost all Dutch. There are very few foreigners- which makes it more attractive to visit. We took the small tourist tram for a ride around Spakenburg- the commentary is only in Dutch, and the driver couldn't speak English- but it was fun. Afterwards, we did what the Dutch do- we had a herring (haring) with chopped onion (I think it was raw- delicious like sashimi) and then had an icecream.
I recommend visiting Spakenburg on a Saturday , or any other day.
