About
Shelley Theatre is the theatre on the Bournemouth clifftop you probably never knew about. We are a 150 seated theatre and provide a variety of entertainment for all tastes. We have: comedy nights; film; live music; performance and dance. The theatre was built in the 1860s by the famous Shelley family, intended to be the home of Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein. Today our whole aim is to bring people and performance together, whilst renovating the theatre and additional spaces at the same time. Our Cafe is open during the week from Monday to Friday (10:30 am to 3.30pm) so if it's using the Wi-Fi or catching up with friends and family, the doors are open for you. Come and see how we're bringing this historic building back to life. We look forward to seeing your soon.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The vwellcome and enthusiasm of the staff (mainly volunteers) is second to none. The knock on effect from this is that the performers will frequently mingle with the audience during intervals and after the performances. Consequently the audience tend to be very relaxed and good company talking with each other as if old friends.
The variety of shows is incredibly varied to cover all tastes.

This theatre is a gem on the edge of Boscombe, a stone's throw from the sea. Tom at the bar is cheerful and imaginative with the range of drinks on offer, also providing good homely food. A variety of wonderful rooms in which to enjoy a film, musical, participate in a celebration of life, or simply put your feet up and chew the fat

Having been told there was definitely one ticket left for tonight's performance that would be available only at 19:30 and that no calls would be taken as staff would be busy, on arriving at 19:28 was told ticket had been sold 20mins earlier over phone. Utterly disappointed. My friends (who I was hoping to join) however all had a wonderful time. Would like to hope no one else suffers this misfortune in the future.

Discovered that the theatre had a café ( actually the bar ) whilst visiting the adjacent Medical centre. So called in and ordered 2 Cappuccino coffees for us whilst abiding time before the appointment.
Must say, that I very impressed with the bar area and renovation which was still in progress and yet to be completed.
But was not impressed with the coffee - very bitter !!!!

Booked tickets for the London Repertory Players performance of Alan Bennett’s ‘Talking Heads’ and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The Players were good and the theatre a delight. Hopefully the volunteers will continue to bring the theatre back to full livf. Reasonable bar, easy parking, tickets reasonably priced and a good vibe.

We love going to the Shelley for music gigs, theatre, films etc. The atmosphere, history and character of the building only adds to any performance we have attended. The staff are always so friendly and helpful.

Just had a fantastic evening with Patti Boulaye - absolutely loved it! I remember growing up that my mum liked her so we grabbed last minute tickets . Front row to the side was perfect .Amazing voice and totally blown away by her vocals (she even sang Nessun Dorma) . The Shelley Theatre is a great venue and has a more intimate feel and the seats are really comfortable . Nice bar and facilities so will look out for more performances as it's such great value .

Can you go just for a drink in the bar?

Hi, at present the bar is open when we have a performance on. It is possible to stay for a quiet drink whilst the first half of a show is on but the bar generally closes after films have started and sometimes after the start of one act plays so it's always best to check. After we have found the funds to complete our refurbishment, the bar and the rest of our catering facilities will become less tied to the performance schedule and will have their own regular trading hours so our website or Facebook page is a good place to keep up to date with the latest developments.
