Seeing Art in a time of Coronavirus
7/2020 • Soolomatka
All credit to White Cube (Bermondsey and Mason’s Yard) for getting back to the business of displaying art as quickly as they have. Indeed White Cube which almost sounds like a metaphor for life under lockdown has seemlessly emerged into the sort of life beyond albeit with timed pre-booking hourly slots, a closed bookshop, and a one-way walking system which makes sense in the corridor not so much in the vast exhibition spaces on either side. The works on display by the improbably named Cerith Wyn Evans (probably a metaphor for contraceptive in Welsh) are all about display in itself whether of luminescent light sculptures which merge seemlessly into the permanent light fittings of the gallery itself or the panels of broken glass whose point other than to shatter or disrupt is perhaps deliberately unclear. But at the moment it’s an exquisite joy coming out of lockdown to be able to see some art at all, not to mention the reactions of fellow visitors expressing ecstasy and bemusement in equal measure.

A hidden gem in Bermondsey
3/2020
A gallery to be discovered, only 10 minutes walk from London Bridge station down Bermondsey Street, but here to be discovered are some of the best art exhibitions in London, most recently on the work of Welsh artist Cerith Wyn Evans whose swirling neon, glass and sound sculptures fill the different spaces of the Gallery, along with new works such as the immense neon Chinese wall 'F-O-U-N-T-A-I-N'.

Undoubtedly one of London's top private galleries and always worth visiting - but obviously check in advance that the gallery is not closed between exhibitions.

Free exhibits in a large gallery
3/2020
The gallery is large and definitely worth a visit. If the exhibits are of interest to you the size of the display area allow you to concentrate solely on the pieces and not other art around. The streets surrounding the museum are interesting too as many are converted warehouses that look attractive.

Very large paintings displayed for maximum impact. Great use of space affording viewer opportunity to stand back or move closer to examine technique.

Would have appreciated more info about how to reach the venue

Anselm Kiefer exhibition - challenging (in a good way)
11/2019
Some of the canvases here are so enormous that they overwhelm, even engulf, you. The art is a combination of light and dark themes and materials and it is pretty jaw-dropping, as well as having humorous moments. It's warm in the main rooms, so probably best to take your layers off before going in.

Anselm Kiefer 'Superstrings ...' is a force of nature on a scale I've never encountered before
11/2019
The 'Superstrings' are easily one of the most incredible set of paintings I've ever seen by Kiefer, or any modern artist this decade - over 7 metres in width, they sweep the viewer over a devastated landscape of charred vegetation and organic matter, drawing one in to the sheer force of nature. Totally incredible.
Go now, its free.

Afternoon of art
8/2019
This gallery is a bit off the beaten track, but worth making the effort to go.
The gallery well laid out with few spaces and a screening room show film footage of current artist works.
I just caught the last few days of The Real / Three Propositions exhibition
And all three artists have their own tale to tell, though I liked Des Lawrence artworks
The first one of 1960s model and topless dancer Christine Keeler (who's antics with various high profile people, it has been said brought down the then Conservative government down) This artwork is enamel on aluminium.
The 2d image was of Des was a homage to 'Wanda Ferragamo' who died at 96 years of age & reigned over family luxury business - Salvatore Ferragamo, founded on shoes. Another artwork in Enamel on aluminium.
And my last choice was his image of Farrah Fawcett one of the original 'Charlies Angels' model & actress. A four-time Emmy Award nominee & six-time Golden Globe awards nominee & was hair style icon from 1976-81 that millions of females copied her look
The other 2 artist were equally as good, but Des was my story

First visit - will be first of many more
5/2019 • Kaverit
Fabulous gallery with high ceilings and an enormous space to fill.
Loved my visit and look forward to the next exhibition as the space really grows on you with its polished grey concrete floors which reflect the pieces hanging on the walls.
Not crowded.
Light and open and inviting.
Book shop staff friendly
I will return.

Tracy Emin exhibition
4/2019 • Soolomatka
Lovely, spacious gallery with good viewing rooms. Emin's work was raw, emotional and powerful. I especially liked her paintings and the use of pinks and reds. I was also very impressed by her sculptures!

Very happy with this exhibition, especially since it was free. Also liked the area surrounding the White Cube and would visit again!
