Perfect Cheese BUT BE AWARE OF ORDERING CHEESE TO BE DELIVERED
6/2020
This Cheesemonger has the best cheeses. I always buy cheese when I am in London, but as I live Dover I get the cheese to be forwarded to me. I love a particular cheese and on the first occasion they sent it to me in a way I expected it to arrive. First I rang, gave all my details, bank, email, telephone number, and the next thing I get a receipt for the cheese, then I get information as to when the item would be delivered - and later a rough time it will arrive. The box arrives with the cheese inside, packed with 2 sets of ice cold items , and the box has an insulation on all four sides. The item arrives and it is perfect. But, after several attempts ... now I get no receipt (I have to ask the Bank what the cost was which they sent it to me on e-mail), also now I dont get any e-mail from the courier company, or any text as to a time when it arrives (the courier company say they never got any details from Paxton & Whitfield although I always give it to them) Today, after calling the store they tell me when the cheese will arrive, and when it does, there is NO top cover inside the box and only one ice pack is in it all melted. It is such a shame that a good Cheesemonger allows the forwarding now where you get no receipt for the sale, you get no information from the courier & you have to call to ask when it will arrive, and when it arrives the top insulation top has been left and only one ice block is with the cheese which is all melted. I wonder if I will ever order cheese again as the people packing the cheese, or the person sending receipts, and informing the courier all the proper details are NOT what they previously did.

Prefect cheese

I wrote a rude review last year - cheese great but vast amount of polystyrene packaging . We were given another pack of wonderful cheese this Xmas. I’m really glad to report that the packaging is now based on wool and biodegradable plastic. Thanks!

Amazing cheesemonger in London.

My wife and I visited the Paxton & Whitfield in Jermyn Street at the weekend. We were fortunate enough to sample a range of unique and rare cheese’s. We were fortunate to be educated by Kate, whose cheese knowledge was incredible and passion for cheese was palpable. The whole experience was unique and I highly recommend a visit as you will learn to love some new cheeses!

Old fashioned

A must see & buy when in London if you have an interest in cheese- I love this place.
Brought my mother in once & quickly left- didn't like the smell, unfortunately.
But that, of course, is the reason why it is such a special shop.
Hope it stays forever.
They have started supplying my club, around the corner, thank God.

Perfection for cheese lovers
7/2019 • Soolomatka
This shop is a throwback to the days of specialist purveyors of fine foods and lifestyle products, serving the luxury market in London’s exclusive Mayfair district. It’s located in Jermyn Street, which has some other examples as do the nearby arcades, like Piccadilly and Burlington Arcades. It’s a truly overwhelming experience, especially if cheese is your thing. It starts with the wonderful aroma of cheese as you walk through the door. The displays are dazzling, offering the finest examples of cheese, some well known and others more obscure. There’s a room at the back selling cheese-related accessories of every imaginable type. As you would expect, service is exquisite with plenty of knowledgeable staff to help you. I could happily have wondered about inside for hours, it was such fun. Prices are not for the faint-hearted, but I’ve seen much lower quality cheese just as fully priced in many other places. So you get what you pay for, which is not just the cheese but a great experience.

What a treasure

On a jaunt through Mayfair, we stopped in at Paxton and Whitfield, having heard about it for years. It is a truly delightful, small shop, with its cheeses and other wares beautifully presented. Its historic facade leads to a sympathetically similar interior. Friendly customer service, beautiful and delicious cheeses. Crackers, jams (?) and other sundries round out its offerings. Truly an institution in Mayfair, and not to be missed!

Splendid products but indifferent service
3/2019 • Soolomatka
This is a fabulous space with excellent products, however my visit was disappointing as the two sales assistants were fairly indifferent to my presence, Even after asking for advice on a specific item I was left none the wiser. The Piccalilli was excellent, although at £4.95 for 198g somewhat expensive. This is not a place for the novice - it certainly felt as if the more knowledgeable customers were treated with greater respect. Despite the less than helpful service it is a great London institution that should not be missed, providing you are not in a wheelchair or have children with you , as the space inside the shop is narrow

What’s not to love

Amazing place - the choices in here are why the place is always busy. Just love the drama of choosing some cheese and getting an expertly explained detail about each one. We always ship the cheese back to home. Wonderful
