Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I love this venue. I would recommend seeing anything here. I went for the panto, which was FAB-U-LOUS, as always. The energy that exuded from the cast was palpable. They were obviously having as much fun as the audience.

They weren't joking when they emailed us ahead of time warning us of the lack of air con at this venue - even in September the heat was so bad that we had to use leaflets to create handheld fans. Almost half of the audience were fanning themselves for the entire performance, and I saw several people have to leave due to the heat (we almost did too!).
I suspect their refusal to install air conditioning is to prop up their ice cream & drinks sales.
Beautiful interior, and the cheap ground-floor side-seats actually offer a really good view (clearly no-one else wanted to book them!).

Went here to see a show. Very intimate theatre with good seating. It’s an easy walk from Leeds station and there’s a pub next door for pre drinks

We went to see Dick Whittington Rock & Roll Panto. I've always wanted to go to The City Varieties but never had the chance before. Its a fantastic little theatre & every seat feels as though you can touch the stage.
The panto was excellent, laugh out loud funny, & the actors super talented to play multiple instruments so well. We will definitely be booking for next year's show.

Went to the Dick Whittington production at the City Varieties Leeds last night. What a great show...despite some illness amongst the cast requiring last minute changes they did a fantastic job! Highly recommended just what you'd hope for in a pantomime and in a beautiful theatre too.

I would like to take my Great Aunt here for a show. However, is she elderly and has reduced mobility and struggles with stairs.
How well does this theatre cater for disability access and people with reduced mobility?

Hi. We sat in the stalls and had to go up done stairs. I am not sure. Have you checked their website. If you give them a ring they should be able to tell you. It is well worth a visit to this lovely theatre

hi want to book for rock and roll panto and wondered what the stalls are like with 10 yr olds, would we have to look up from front stalls to see stage or would further back be better, we went to a diff one and was in row a at a diff theatre and could only see front if stage as it was so high, we looked like mice trying to watch it
GrandTheatreLS1

Hi you are close to the stage and need to look up if you are in the front few rows so you may prefer to sit in the circle or further back in the stalls

Where is the nearest car park?
GrandTheatreLS1
Leeds, UK1 contribution
Secure public parking is available at various nearby car parks, including The Light (via Great George Street) and the St John's and Merrion Centre shopping malls. Park and Ride is available from Elland Road. A limited amount of on street parking is available and there are disabled badge holder spaces on The Headrow, Wormald Row and Mark Lane.

Hi I have booked for a box E1 and E2 and am now concerned over restricted, can anyone advise if I these seats have a blind spot as they were more expensive than the stalls
Thanks.

The only restriction to your view will be a tiny section of the back of the stage on your side of the stage. Though as this is only a tiny stage, you will probably not be able to see about a 4 foot square area, any production worth it's salt doesn't have a lot of action going on in these corners.
I usually book box K which is above the stage and have never missed anything on stage either for plays, gigs or comedy nights
Enjoy your show and have a great time in this wonderful theatre
