Family opened for 4 generations

The man was so proud of what his family has done over last 100 years

The shoes, I have no idea, kids bought 3 pairs..... fact that the store has been the same for 100 years may not be a positive

So much potential......

Spaniards are just happy

Terrible customer service, lovely shoes
6/2017 • Pariskunnat
Went to buy some shoes and the female customer service lady was very rude. I did not expect her to speak English and asked her numbers in Spanish for shoe sizes. I tried on the size she suggested and then they felt extremely tight so I asked for another size up. She gave me a dirty look and spoke to the gentleman there about me right in front of me. I couldn't tell exactly what she was saying but obviously you know when someone's talking about you. I did purchase the shoes but would not recommend this place.

Had a great time shopping for espadrilles- family run business, great selection and service! I recommend going early in the day as it is a small shop.

Amazing Store!
10/2016 • Soolomatka
I visited last October 2016 and looking for a place for souvenir. I read about how nice this shop by tripadvisor. The location was close to metro, however you need google map to direct to the exact place as the street is quite tricky. The owner does not speak english at all but good thing I know some spanish words and he is very helpful. One thing, once you get in the store, make sure wait for your turn if there is any customer. As he doesn't like anyone just touch and try the displayed shoes. Fair enough as he was very attentive anticipating my needs when It was my turn. I must say the designs are all in the trend. Good value for money. Kudos for local brand with a good quality. Good job Madrid! Defintely will come back!

This place is amazing. So many great shoes, such personal attention from the owners, such tradition...if you are looking for the real deal this is it. Very affordable but cash only.

Nice selection of espadrilles

Wonderful shop to visit. The owner was a really nice gentleman to speak to and showed me photos of his grandfather as well as some other family photos. Bought myself a pair of espadrilles at a very good price although they did have some better and more comfortable ones at €35 although the basic pair will do for most if you're just looking for a casual pair.

After reading other reviews about this shop, I was determined to get there during my short stay in Madrid. Luckily my husband was on board with the plan. We got there just before closing and there were several other customers. The owners were very warm, friendly, and helpful. They are fourth generation in this family business and take a lot of pride in their espadrilles. The jute is imported from India and the selection was wonderful. I bought two pair for myself, two as gifts, and my husband even left with a pair that looks like a casual shoe! Would recommend this shop to all my friends traveling to Madrid! All the shoes get tons of compliments and feel like walking in comfy slippers.

Step Back in Time!
7/2016 • Soolomatka
This quaint, amazingly stocked espadrilles shop was my first TripAdvisor experience! And SO well worth it! I set out from my hotel in Salamanca and navigated my way over to Antigua Casa Crespo in Malasana, the ultra hip neighborhood. If you blink, you'll miss it because the door is quite small and they don't have big front windows.

Step down into the shop and and step way back in time! Casa Crespo was quite busy with all Spanish customers. NO tourists. Not a one. Except me! I felt if the locals were there buying their espadrilles, they must be the real deal! Anna helped me and despite the fact that she didn't speak English, and I can't speak Spanish, we settled into a nice groove and had a few laughs!

Their inventory was so well priced (about 48 euros), unique and diverse! Bright colors, stripes, metallics, flats, wedges, ankle wraps, peep toe! I was in HEAVEN! I prefer the wedges to the flats and I ended up with 5 really incredible pairs! And here's the BEST part, they are just SO comfortable! Yesterday, I wore my blue metallic wedges for 7 hours and walked 6 miles through Madrid and they never hurt me or bothered me ONCE! I'm in love with my new purchases! In fact, my two girls want me to take them back later today so they can get some!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND Casa Crespo and be sure to check out the super cool soap shop across the street! You may need to buy an extra suitcase! We certainly will!

Wonderful

The shop alone is worth the walking. It is steeped in history and quite beautiful.
I have very challenging feet and the woman was very helpful despite my lack of Spanish language. The shoes are great. I got 3 pairs, terrific for traveling. Just remember to take enough cash, although these will be the cheapest quality shoes you can buy!
You can get the big brand shoes anywhere, if you are traveling to Spain my attitude is that you need to get some espadrilles.

Delightful visit at Casa Crespo
4/2016 • Kaverit
I was staying in Chueca and easily found this spot. The owner was a bit reserved at first, but warmed up to me; I do speak Spanish though. The other patrons were all friendly and we ended up chatting for a long time. The store was amazing and is indeed like stepping into the past. The floor is polished wood and wavy. I'd probably go just to see the interior of the store, but the alpargatas/espadrilles are what bring people here, both Spanish and foreign visitors. They are handmade in the Crespo factory, unlike most other alpargatas and the difference is readily apparent. Lots of alparagatas are now made in China from Spanish designs.Good selection and the designs range from charming to elegant. I spend 70 euros on 3 pair. They don't take credit cards; cash only. I'll probably make a second trip in the next few days, now that I have European sizes for family members!
