The focal point of Pompeii - now and then
11/2019
This is a very large, spacious and harmonious Forum, even today when we can only see the ruins. We really enjoyed being on that spot. The remains of the colonnade around the Forum are especially inspiring, particularly where an additional upper row of columns is positioned above the first one.

In the northern part of this large rectangular space is the Temple of Jupiter, with the Honorary Arches. On the left western side is the Basilica, the Temple of Apollo and a storage area on the former Granary Market.

On the right is the beautiful Macellum, the Temple of Vespasian and the Building of Eumachia. The southern part is dominated by a bronze Centaurus, a sculpture made in XXI. century by a contemporary Polish artist, Igor Mitoraj.

Imagine the past greatness
5/2019
Start by researching before you go as there are a lot of cons going on as you walk up. Whether you do a self tour or a guided tour, be prepared to walk - a lot! Very cool to imagine how the Romans lived right before their town got frozen in time.

another amazing antiquity
5/2019
One of the most intact of the free standing buildings at Pompeii, this plaza is the open meeting place for this ancient city and a must see part of any tour

No shade
6/2019
Pompeii is a site to see, the ruins are stunning! But be warned, it gets hot and there is absolutely no shade so pace yourself.

What the forum should look like
3/2020
We visited Rome's forum and with 3D software saw what it should be, here you can really appreciate the various areas and temples more so than Rome which is more in ruins.

We learn something new every time we come to Pompeii
4/2019
We have been to Pompeii on three different trips. And each time we find new things they have uncovered. Out first visit was in 1973, and it is amazing what they have uncovered over the years. I met one of the archeologist that has worked the site for years, and is now retired, but goes back for tours,

Great glimpse into the past. I didn't realise how impressive the building must have been back in the day!

Amazing restoration

Gives you an idea of how large the community was - a real living city destroyed by mother nature. Gets busy and so much else to see. Head to this part of the city for the exit by the train.

SOCIAL, POLITICAL AND RELIGIOUS CENTER OF POMPEII
4/2019
The civic center of the city, accessed by four main roads, the main feature of the forum was the Temple of Jupiter (dedicated to Jupiter, Juno and Minerva). Today, beyond the former location of the temple is a grand view of Vesuvius. This is a place to stand and ponder what life was like in 79AD prior to the eruption.

Pompeii has been on my bucket list for years.
11/2019
If you are visiting Pompei you need a tour guide to explain the artefacts. We had a walk-in talkie system so we could always hear. His knowledge was really good. He pointed out in the road the cats eyes. In the UK we have a cats eye system but the Romans did it first. Our guide pointed out small pieces of white marble in among the big stones of the road. There were also stepping stones to cross the road for the women with space in between for the chariots.
There are some beautiful frescoes although many were destroyed by the excavation.
There are the remains of a bakery, shops, houses, a forum and utensils.
You need a good to enjoy the tour and sensible shoes as some places are a little tricky.
