Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Pompeii's main street. Requires a lot of imagination, but the street is well intact, complete with cross walks and wagon wheel lanes

The longest street in Pompeii, it stretches from the Forum to the Porta Sarno. It runs past sections 1, 2,3,7,8, and 9. This stone cobbled road has numerous fountains along and a number of significant sites. Raised walkways on either side and fully cobbled, the street is more difficult to walk than the (sometimes crowded) walkways. If you decide to walk in the street, take care and have sturdy shoes.

A long walk through time, you need to keep your eyes open for the road signs which are actually carved in the stone walk ways. There is not much in the way of articles that depict the use of the buildings you walk through as most items are in museums here and across Italy but there is still a sense of awe. This was one of the main streets from the sea to the town and therefore used a lot by visitors especially sailors. This is as an important site to visit as any in Italy and well worth a visit, comfortable shoes needed as there is a lot of walking but suitable for all ages

The Via dell'Abbondanza, the main street of ancient Pompeii, begins at the southeast corner of the Forum and continues eastward.

As we entered the street, we passed the Casa del Cinghiale (the Boar House), but we did not visit it. We saw two public fountains, with drinking water and a couple of those characteristic, elevated street crosswalk. In front of the Terme Stabiane (the largest baths in Pompeii), the street becomes wider and the intersection with the Via Stabiana, with a couple of shorter column stubs and one higher column, is quite impressive. It looks like there was a tetrapylon.

After the intersection, we passed the House of M. Epidius Rufus, the House of Casca Longus and arrived at the Fullery of Stephanus, a workshop for cleaning clothes, but we did not go in. On the facade, there are some ancient voting graffiti, with slogans of the candidates! Across the street, we saw the actual remains of an ancient door, still with the hinges. High above is the modern Casina dell'Aquila, with a restaurant for tourists. It shows very vividly, how much pumice, lapilli and ash had to be removed to excavate the ruins!

This road has both vilas, stores, water fountains (water for citizens), advertisement on walls. As walk down it, you realize that this is a very well made city unfortunately, this was also where they threw their waste since no sewers

A main road running through Pompeii that runs from the east gate (Sarno) to the forum. It is the longest road in the ruins at nearly 1 KM. Situated along the route are ruins of the Stabian baths, major intersection with via Stabiana (which leads to the theater district), elite residences, houses, shops and workshops. If you have visited Pompeii you have walked on this road

Amazing to see how the ancient people used to live - walk down the old main street and peer into old buildings and stores. The road is carved so that the sewerage could flow down with two main pedestrian walkways on either side with stepping stones in between!

To think that in these days there were no sewers and the waste just ran down the street , the smell must have been horrendious especially in the heat of summer. They had an aquaduct system to flush the waste down the street but how often I did not find out.But nowadays so worth a visit .

it is a wonderful feeling walking the streets of ancient pompeii. you have to be careful and watch your step because the streets are uneven, with one wrong step you can twist an ankle or fall especially when the streets are swarming with tourists. They were very crowded during our visit. the stones are smooth so easy for someone to slip. It was definitely worth it though

The main street leading from the ancient city of Pompeii represents the decuman the main road that leads from east to west of the city. Street full of shops and taverns. Street dedicated to commerce, each house had an open atrium for the sale of drinks or groceries. When the street is very crowded there are problems to proceed as the fairly narrow sidewalk is uneven
