Neighbourhood: Centro Storico
The pulsating core of Milan is in Centro. Duomo Square is enclosed by the gothic cathedral, the historic icon of Milan. However, shopping is what draws most crowds to this area. The classy and versatile Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II with luxury boutiques and high quality restaurants will turn any shopping or lunch expedition into a royal experience. Head to the rooftop of the flagship La Rinascente to enjoy the view of the animated square with a panorama of the Duomo. The Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the street for high-end shopping. Brands of all kinds and street artists attract the attention of all visitors; while at Via Santa Radegonda 16, Luini Panzerotti is a much appreciated street food shop providing unimaginable culinary experiences. If shopping takes its toll on you, consider visiting Castello Sforzesco, a 15th century castle housing several museums. Those looking to relax can go to Parco Sempione, where nature provides respite from the energy of this dynamic and international city.

It is delightful - quiet and peaceful and full of beautiful objects and artefacts, all in the setting of a 1930s villa specifically commissioned from the architect Piero Portaluppi. And all in a lovely garden setting too. Very close to Palestro metro station.Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 June 2023

Normally you wouldn't think directly of the Villa Necchi Campiglio when visiting Milan. But I think it should definitely be up there! It was amazing.

The villa is indeed beautiful if you love art deco and rationalist styles which I do. The grounds are equally beautiful with some magnificent magnolia trees and of course the famous pool.
Inside the villa, there are lots to see but the highlights for me are: the collection of Chinese/Japanese figurines and vases; the library which looked so inviting I wanted to plop on the sofa and read one of the many books in the collection; the artwork; the dressing area and wardrobes as well as the huge bathrooms.
Do ask the very friendly and helpful guides for explanations.
My only gripe is the price of entry at 15euros which is steep when you compare it to some of the best art museums in Europe.

Villa Necchi Campiglio is situated in the centre of Milan.
It is a short walk away from Palestro metro station which is on line M1.
The building was completed in the 1930’s with beautiful fixtures and fittings, some of which was created by designer Tomaso Buzzi.
There was plenty of good Italian modernist art on show from the likes of Mario Sironi and Gino Severini.
I also enjoyed the work of Felice Casorati.
One slight downside was the lack of captions by the art works. I did not avail myself of the audio guide as I did not have any ear phones.
However, a very helpful guide gave me a fascinating insight to the work of Sironi and the history of the building.
Admission fee was €15.

A beautiful place to discover! Not to be missed if you like 20's & 30's architecture.
Their tour presentation (website available at the entrance of the villa) is very well structured exploring each room one after the other.
You can also enjoy the garden for a drink / snack.
The place has been featured in the House of Gucci film... you will recognise the entrance.
Also there is a special card that you can buy online which grants you access to the 4 private house museums in Milan (This villa as well as Villa Poldi Pezzoli, Bagatti Valsecchi and Casa Boschi di Stefano0. A great value.

MUST VISIT, even if you are not an architect or into interior design. A fantastic place with the friendliest and kindest staff I have ever encountered. A big plus is that the audio guide is included in the price, so you can connect to the villa's WiFi and use your phone and headphones to listen to the audio guide at your own pace.
However, I recommend that you befriend someone from the staff; they are more than happy to share more info, show you some old photos, or open some hidden doors... :)
Too bad it was closing soon for a private event; otherwise, we would have enjoyed more in the beautiful garden and had some drinks.

We bought the tickets at the gift shop but had the hotel concierge inquire about the time of the English guided tour.

Salve,
la Villa e’ visitabile anche da persone diversamente abili?
Ci sono scale o parti della Villa che risultano inaccessibili a persone in carrozzina?
Grazie

I found your reviews very helpful. Can I get advance tickets to the Villa Necchi or was it easy to just go and purchase.
Interesting to note the tour is 1.5 hours.

Is the house only accessible with a guided tour? One of the reviews mentioned Sunday afternoons (times?) are possible without a guided tour - is this correct?

My experience is that there are tour times / limited number of people admitted but accessible. You might want to check when you arrive in Milan about accessibility (hotel concierge) but I think you can get in with ease....I don't remember having an issue and I've been twice.
