The pulsating core of Milan is in Centro. Duomo Square is enclosed by the gothic cathedral, the historic icon of Milan. However, shopping is what draws most crowds to this area. The classy and versatile Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II with luxury boutiques and high quality restaurants will turn any shopping or lunch expedition into a royal experience. Head to the rooftop of the flagship La Rinascente to enjoy the view of the animated square with a panorama of the Duomo. The Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the street for high-end shopping. Brands of all kinds and street artists attract the attention of all visitors; while at Via Santa Radegonda 16, Luini Panzerotti is a much appreciated street food shop providing unimaginable culinary experiences. If shopping takes its toll on you, consider visiting Castello Sforzesco, a 15th century castle housing several museums. Those looking to relax can go to Parco Sempione, where nature provides respite from the energy of this dynamic and international city.

We marveled at the exhibition of DA VINCI'S UNIQUE works. He was a true genius. Only a portion of his 12 set volume is on display . Still amazing . The building itself is a jewel of Renaissance Architecture which includes a lovely cloister.

The Sacrestia del Bramante exhibits pages from the Codex Atlanticus - a portfolio of Leonardo Da Vinci's manuscripts. The displays in this room show about 20 pages from the portfolio on a rotating basis and it is amazing to see Leonardo's original handwriting and drawings. The room also has a video display translating the drawings to 3D and doing an excellent job of explaining how the contraptions were intended to function. When we visited there were only some 10 people in the room and we could see each of the pages at our ease. The location is next to the St Maria Delle Grazie, and a Leonardo alternative if you were not able to get tickets to The Last Supper.

This site is located quite centrally so it is easy to reach. If your main purpose is yo see the codex atlanticus you do not need an audio guide as you have all sketches explained also in english.
Definately on the to do list in Milan.

A small room off the beautiful Cloister of the Frogs at the St Maria Delle Grazie church - the interiors are amazing and beautiful - take the time to absorb so much history here. The audio guide will ensure you dont miss anything and is well worth the extra Euros (our tickets to the last supper included the Sacrestia & the audio guide and we are glad we allowed at least 2 hours to spend here and in the church). The staged exhibition drawings from the Codex Atlanticus by Leonardo Da Vinci were fabulous and well presented in English and Italian. There is a secret tunnel in here that was an escape route from Sforza Castle (destroyed during WWII) and a rare example of a nocturnal clock. An excellent example of Bramante architecture. Well worth a visit but allow plenty of time to absorb all this historical information before or after you see the Last Supper.

A small room off the cloister of the Frogs at St. Maria delle Grazie. Worth a visit not only for the great interiors but because it now host sketches from Leonardo's Codex Atlanticus.

Very well staged exhibition of drawings from Codex Atlanticus. Technical details are incredible. Collection will be shown in series and will last another year. I wish I had seen this while at school!

We recently were in Milan. We made reservations to see the Last Supper. Our reservations were free because of Culture Week. However, while investigating the process for booking the Last Supper tickets, I saw that some ticket sites offered a combination ticket. My husband had studied the Sacristy in art history in college and indicated that he would like to see it. The ticket was 8 euros per person. There was only one other person in the sacristy. He seemed on interested in the Leonardo Codex Atlanticus display and not the sacristy. That's a good thing because it is so dark in the building that you really cannot make out any detail of the interior. Plus the Leonardo display is blocking a lot of the interior, so that you cannot see it nor get closer to it. True, any display of DaVinci's work is amazing, but I had seen more interesting, better presented displays in other cities in Italy. It was really disappointing.

Leonardo's various studies on the flying machine and other sketches - mostly on mechanical, technical principles or the birds' flight or wing studies are being exhibited in Codex Atlanticus in Bramante's sacristy. There is a truly private, unhasty ambience to this place. The architecture creates throughout a very balanced setting. In the polygonal choir at the very front there are the most naturally lively monumental depictions of putti in various motion acts. It is a true pity only that one cannot study the extraordinary, painted scenes on the wooden seatings alongside the walls. There was no way to get to them and they would be worth a closer examination.

The "Sacrestia" didn't really impress me. I visited it because of the "codex atlanticus" of Leonardo Da Vinci. It had a ticket of 10euros (very expensive for only one room of exibition). If you visit the Ambrosiana Pinacoteca (which also exposes a part of "codex atlanticus"), I dont' think you get anything from visiting the Sacrestia.
