The pulsating core of Milan is in Centro. Duomo Square is enclosed by the gothic cathedral, the historic icon of Milan. However, shopping is what draws most crowds to this area. The classy and versatile Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II with luxury boutiques and high quality restaurants will turn any shopping or lunch expedition into a royal experience. Head to the rooftop of the flagship La Rinascente to enjoy the view of the animated square with a panorama of the Duomo. The Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the street for high-end shopping. Brands of all kinds and street artists attract the attention of all visitors; while at Via Santa Radegonda 16, Luini Panzerotti is a much appreciated street food shop providing unimaginable culinary experiences. If shopping takes its toll on you, consider visiting Castello Sforzesco, a 15th century castle housing several museums. Those looking to relax can go to Parco Sempione, where nature provides respite from the energy of this dynamic and international city.

- Alyeska13The Netherlands552 contributionsI’ve visited many churches, but this one is really special! The inside of this incredible, ancient church is literally covered in amazing artwork. Every square inch is decorated! I talked to the most wonderful guide who spoke very good English who explained the cloister behind the main part of the church to me and and gave me lots of insight into details of the paintings. You can even see the grill between the public and private space. The guide was very kind! This church used to have a very well known monastery, and the nuns had their own section of the church attached to their convent to attend Mass but also to be separate from the main church. You can visit both spaces, and they are SPECTACULAR. You do not need to pay to go here, but you really should give at least a small donation to help preserve this lovely, calming space. It is a wonderful place to get out of the dirt and bustle of busy Milan, and it is very peaceful. If you like, you can sit and pray, meditate, or just soak in the incredible artwork in the main area of the church. In the cloister, the guide even pointed out on artist’s signature on his paintings which was a little white dog. It really made the art seem personal to me. There is also the archeological museum in the former convent that looks very interesting, but I didn’t have the time to go unfortunately. I did walk through the gift shop on my way out which has books with photos of the interior of the church. I wish now that I’d bought one!Visited June 2023Written 18 June 2023
- Dan MFrankfurt, Germany68 contributionsBeautiful and worthwhile stop between Il Cenacolo and Duomo di Milano. We visited The Last supper early and were walking towards the Duomo. I had read about this church and it was hot, so I stopped in with my family of seven (young children, teens, twenty-somethings and above). Everyone in our party loved this stop and spent far more time than we intended looking at the beautiful art . It was wonderful, and it is free (although you will want to donate). Best of all, it was a slight respite from the incredibly hot day. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain taking some time to enjoy this stop.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 18 July 2023
- Philip CYork, Maine598 contributionsFind this Treasure!Wow. And wow again. Had we not been diverted from our walk to the Sforza Castle, we would not have come upon this incredibly frescoed and maintained Monastery of the Benedectine Nuns. Consisting of a public space, and the private chapel for the nuns, the church is completely frescoed and all are in wonderful condition. While it was a happy accident for us, it would have been ashamed to miss! Plus where else can you see the painting of Noah, drunk, after the ark had landed!Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 September 2023

The lovely guide laughed and said so many people had that reaction. We’re not religious people but the beauty of the place is very spiritual. Another must of places to see in Milan. - ThomasJarrett6 contributionsMilan’s Sistine ChapelThe exterior of this church is rather plain, and you would not know the true beauty of its interior unless you have done some research. However, the interior is spectacular. Dozens of beautiful paintings of Biblical events such as Noah’s Ark, etc. It is absolutely incredible inside, and I would definitely recommend you visit, as it is free to enter and not very busy when we wentVisited January 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 16 January 2024

Absolutely stunning!!! It put me in awe just as much as the Sistine Chapel did! Don’t let the nondescript exterior facade fool you.

Very detailed on the inside. Some of the artwork is incredible.
From the outside it doesn’t look much at all, so the grandeur on the inside is very surprising.
Definitely worth a visit.

The frescos in the church from the 16th century were quite something. Especially liked the one depicting Noah's Ark.

We came in here as part of our walking tour and strangely had to split into two groups despite the place being far from busy.
The church was split into two areas, the traditional church area for worship and prayer and then the rear area which was apparently where the nuns pretty much spent their whole lives.
I'd advise going in with a guide or some with knowledge as there are some interesting stories behind a lot of the artwork on the walls, a lot of it based on the barbaric practices that happened to people.
Free to get in and worth a visit.

The church is also called the Sistine Chapel of Milan, it is so richly decorated with frescoes by the masters of the school of Leonardo de Vinci. The current building was built in 1503.
