Neighbourhood: Duomo
Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyone’s childhood.

The construction of this palace began in 1489.

Filippo Strozzi died in 1491, long before the construction's completion in 1538.

A modern exhibition of Anish Kapoor with provoking colors, visually challenging. The black black works are really cool.

We went to see the Anish Kapoor exhibit. We got a lot more out of it by renting the audio tour. The exhibit is thought provoking and the building, an old palace, is quite interesting.

Magnificent Renaissance palace, Palazzo Strozzi, is located near Piazza Signoria in the very center of Florence. It is home to the Museo Fondazione Franco Zeffirelli and many wonderful temporary art exhibitions. The interior of the Palazzo is closed to public though

We saw the endless array of ads for the Olafur Eliasson exhibition at Palazzo Strozzi, so we decided to visit it.
While the building itself is lovely, the queue was endless (over an hour long, and another 30 minutes before moving to the basement).
The exhibition itself was disappointing to an extent it was irritating.

During a short three days in Florence, on our Friday evening, we visited the Palazzo Strozzi to see the Olafur Eliasson "Nel tuo tempo" exhibition. Purpose was twofold: I'm always looking for something to do early evening (art, music, and the like) and I wanted to see the historic Palazzo Strozzi. The exhibition wasn't exactly as I envisioned but I did see some interesting pieces, although they weren't set in any space look palatial or historic. And I didn't really see much of the Palazzo or learn about its history. Should we find ourselves in Florence in the future, I would check the Palazzo Strozzi website for other similar opportunities and maybe be able to learn more about the Strozzi family and their history as well.

We stopped in to see the Olafur Eliasson exhibition recently and the venue is beautiful and it was interesting to have such a modern exhibition in a historic building. The exhibition itself was very fun, colorful, and most importantly not over crowded like when I saw his exhibition in London. Very well managed, and easy to navigate. Right in the heart of Florence as well. I would be interested to see an exhibition here again.

We visited in October 22, and saw the Olafur Eliasson exhibit. The artist and exhibit were wonderful, original, with a few works specifically designed for the building itself.
This was one of the highlights to our italy visit. We prioritized it over going to the Ufizzi to see the same old classical stuff again and it did not disappoint.

Much of this Renaissance palace is closed to the public, but it is renowned for its special exhibitions. If you are in Florence, check out if there are any temporary presentations. We were lucky that our recent visit coincided with the amazing ‘once in a life-time’ special Donatello - Il Rinascimento Exhibition which united most of the artist’s masterpieces from Florence and wider Italy, together with loans from some of the world’s most famous museums, displayed alongside works of his contemporaries and successors, so that you could better understand his innovations and influence. A smaller version of this exhibition is due to move to London and New York. Our only disappointment is that we have no memento of the Exhibition – the official guide was too large, heavy and costly (over £50) so not suitable for the average visitor/tourist.
