- Ellie C171 contributionsPleasant surprise - Worth a quick visitAfter seeing all the major sights in Florence, we had some time to spare and decided to visit the synagogue. There is a small museum and a compelling 20-minute movie about how the synagogue came to be. The interior of the synagogue itself is elaborately decorated in a Moorish style. If you're inclined to visit, you will be glad you did. There are free lockers which allow you to store your belongings. The only thing you can bring inside is your phone. Visit the nearby Mercato di Sant’Ambrogio, a more authentic/local food market than Florence's main Central Market.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 September 2023
- KosherAndGlutenFreeNew Jersey290 contributionsBeautiful synagogue, mostly of interest to members of the tribeThere is a small museum inside the synagogue, and it is possible to pay for an audio guide, but that's not really necessary. There are a few religious items on display (a Torah scroll, menorah,..) If you are Jewish, it's of some interest. Otherwise, this is not an important stop.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 31 October 2023

We were impressed by how easy it was to learn about the history of the synagogue throughout the ages. Sadly, horrible things happened to the Jewish population in Florence during WWII and the museum does a very good job of telling the story. It's sad but worth visiting.

Driver never showed up. When I called could not speak enough English to explain to me why he wasn’t at texted meeting place. Within my interaction I was given 4 different meeting places.

I had such a fantastic time with this experience! Osama was so kind, an excellent driver, and made sure we had a great time! We were smiling the whole time and I highly recommend this company and his expertise. He even brought us to a delicious restaurant after, which we were so thankful for his suggestions.

Caution: Do not book! The golf cart tour operator stood us up, leaving disappointed children. Communication and service were inexistent. Exercise caution before considering their services. Viator cannot refund until they reach operator or 72 hrs have passed!

It was a great way to get a quick overview of the city and then decide what to see next. We felt they were concerned we have a good experice- you could tell the driver loved his city and was passionnate about it. It was a rainy day, a good day to keep out of the elements.

Fun trip through town with taped narration supplemented by the driver. Interesting ride that took us to the top of the city with a great view.

Because we cancelled and the tour guide still keeps bothering me about rescheduling!
Not sure what more I can say but you make our own decision if you want to be hassled by an operator from a tour that was cancelled.

My husband and I will be in Florence this coming Sunday, 25 August and would like to visit the synagogue that morning. Is there a tour; do we need an appointment?

I went in February and it was wonderful weather and not too busy. You can buy your entrance ticket at the gate. BE SURE to take your Iphone or device with a camera in because you cannot take a regular camera and must leave your belongings (ie Backpack) in a locker at the entrance. It is not in the main downtown area so I expect only people with a specific interest would go. No lines in February. Hope this is helpful.
Please provide information for tours and how to get tickets for the synagogue and Jewish Museum?

Probably. They are very welcoming to visitors. I would write ahead to make certain you have a reservation. The sinogoga is an amazing place.

We will be in Florence over erev Yom Kippur. Is it possible to attend a Kol Nidre service?
Alan G
Northampton, MA481 contributions
I would say that if you write to the director of the synagogue beforehand or head Rabbii, that would be a tremendous help. I am the producer of a youtube show and to get an interview and most importantly be able to bring my camera into the place, I wrote ahead and gained special permission. That small gesture is very much appreciated by the people there. When I arrived, they were very, very accommodating.

We are interested in a tour of Jewish history in Florence - on September 14th in the afternoon - can you recommend a guide in English?

Does admission to the Synagogue include a tour of the Synagogue and Museum? How do I make sure it will be in English?
yes would like to know if i can attend services Friday NIGHT or SATURDAY MORNING
Alan G
Northampton, MA481 contributions
Yes. We arrived there late on a Friday evening. They said there was no entrance unless we were attending the service. We then sat and listened and found it very nice. Then we realized we had something we had planned to do, and left. The guard was not happy and thought we had hoodwinked him. I felt very bad as did my companions, so unless you will stay a while, don't go unless you do not mind the anger of the security officer. For a lecture I was giving in 2014 I made an appt with the Director of the Synagogue and had a lovely chat with him and the Director of the Congregation. They were extraordinarily kind to me and my entourage. The Head Rabbi was, at that time, in NYC!!!

I would like to visit the Synagogue when I am in Florence in September. Do you recommend walking there, taking a bus, or a taxi? It looks like it is located just outside of the city center.
