Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This museum is centrally located but still not flooded with visitors.
It showcases the history of an unique Institution founded in the middle age
taking care of orphans and foundlings. One floor details the history until present with pictures and a movie, the second shows the architecture and the third exceptional paintings and other pieces of art.
Highly recommended.

An interesting museum but you do not get a feel for the orphanage or life through the ages. This is a good museum if you are looking for information boards and a few artefacts alongside an art and photography exhibit.

What an amazing and thoughtful tour of Florence History regarding the care of abandoned children from the 1400s. This museum has a fantastic exposition by world renowned photographer Steve McCurry - paying tribute to Children from around the world…especially children with difficult cultural and economic circumstances (including the impacts of poverty and war). This exposition gives great support to the heart of Italy (especially Florence) for the children that were given up as infants and the care that this city provided.
The entire church, campus are documented with a historical depiction of the difficulties experienced by children that were under the care of the city/church. This is a museum that no one should miss. The history is rich with great care given to the impact that was experienced by the children.
Steve McCurry (photographer) is such an asset to this park and the importance of bringing to light the importance of not forgetting the future of our world - the children. Don’t miss this extraordinary museum and make sure to visit the cafe on the very top floor the overlooks the city. Entry to this floor is well worth the admission.
This is a great idea for an added bonus and memory in Florence. It should not be missed! Also the audio guide is fantastic for the Steve McCurry exhibit.

This is an excellent and interesting museum and well worth a visit. The recording and life of abandoned children through the years is impressive as is their meticulous records. The displays on children's memento is heartwarming and sad. There is an excellent coffee on the roof with amazing views of the city and very reasonably priced.

The most beautifully, cleverly restored building, with a significant history as a foundlings’ orphanage/care home. There were a few pieces of iconic art (both della Robbias, Botticelli etc), a great exhibition about its history, with very moving interactive elements , and - when we went - a great temporary Escher exhibition. No crowds and a beautiful cafe on top floor.

This is a somehow disappointing museum as most of its exhibits were not interesting.
The only lovely thing about it was the ceiling paintings at the entrance.

This was a revelation. I'd expected a pretty boring museum when my wife suggested it. But it was very good. The historical time line was a little confusing, but a good video and interactive exhibits which brought to life what was being done to support the foundlings. I guess now its more a foster agency, and some of the stories are a little disturbing, especially bringing out how backward this society is currently in relation to adoption. The cafe on the fifth floor provides the best views across Florence of the Duomo and other churches and palaces.

Such a great experience - we learnt so much about the history of this amazing building - so interesting. A definite place to visit whilst in Florence. There were plenty of interactive displays, however I think the chronological order of events could have been displayed in a much easier way for visitors to follow - but this did not detract too much from the experience.

The hours here are wrong as at April 2022. They're 11 am till 6 pm closed Tuesday. An uplifting experience testifying to the generosity of the 15th Century Florentines in contrast to the extravagance of the Medici. Yet they have as valuable art here as anywhere else in the city. It's quiet so you can actually appreciate what you are looking at. The café is the best view and also very quiet buts cocktails and coffee only, no food choices. Beware though, the story of the foundlings is sad.

This was one of our favourite museums in Florence.

We ducked in here away from the crowds on a busy Monday afternoon.
The museum is quiet and peaceful and is a model of how to bring together artefacts, informative text, multimedia and interactive exhibits.

This was my second visit and once again I was all alone in the museum and gallery, perfect for an immersive experience. There is the occasional passer-by in the courtyards, as a kindergarten is attached to the rear of the buildings.

The history and personal stories of the institution are really quite poignant and affecting.

The architecture is really first class, inside and out. The inner courtyards are the perfect place for a rest and some quiet reflection.

Mid-way there is a nice gift-shop, with some interesting items for sale.

The final step of the visit is quite extraordinary - an exhibition of many pieces of late medieval and renaissance art gathered by the institution during its long history.
This includes a striking Madonna and Child by Sandro Botticelli, a real gem and quite a highlight of the tour.

Please visit this wonderful museum, it is criminally underappreciated.
