Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Church of Sant'Agostino is one of the some churches located in the old town in San Gimignano, a wonderful medieval town in Tuscany Region, in the center of Italy. This church is the second largest religious building in the town, only after Duomo (Cathedral) and it was a very robust building and you can see it from some lookouts. It is nice and in the inner side, you can see some religious paintings of the saint.

This church is easily accessible all year round but is more peaceful in early mornings. The winter months see less tourists and so give the visitor a more tranquil experience.

It’s a nice surprise (and a welcome relief) to find a quiet spot in San Gimignano. The church somehow feels off the beaten track because not many people seem to make it here but it is seriously only 7 – 10 minute walk away from the main piazza.
To get there, you can head down Via San Matteo but it's also a good chance to wander off through a few side-streets and explore a little.
Admittedly, it’s not very impressive from the outside. It’s big but it’s also a very simple, plain structure (probably because it was built around the late 1200s by the monks themselves). Inside however is a little treasure chest of artworks. The main fresco cycle around the altar is the most interesting part. It tells the story of the 4th century saint, St Augustine. Even without knowing much, you can mostly follow his story because each panel shows another step in life, from starting school as a little boy (he looks reluctant with his arms crossed defiantly), to university, his travels to Africa, leaving for Milan on horseback, baptism and finally his funeral.
Outside is a large, peaceful cloistered courtyard, surrounded by covered walkways and flowers in urns. It is a reminder that for centuries this has been a space of quiet contemplation and devotion to prayer.
Entry is free (or you can make a donation). The church is closed for several hours in the middle of the day between 12 - 3pm.

Seeing this beautiful, peaceful church, built in 1260, was a highlight of our visit to San Gimignano. The frescoes depicting the life of St Augustine were wonderful.

Among other items is the 15th Century cycle of frescos by Benozzi Gozzoli on the life of St Agostino. A beautiful insight to Renaissance Italy.

This small church is beautiful with incredible frescos. It is nearby to a small square with quaint restaurants. This is a quieter area of San Gimignano as the main square is very busy with tourists. It is worth the walk to visit this church.

Consecrated in 1298, this church is on a square away from the town center. The interior was decorated by Vanvitelli The choir is covered in Gozzoli's frescos depicting the Life of St Augustine. Above the main altar is The Coronation of the Virgin by Pollaiuolo.

In town but a bit far from the central street, a nice and charming church and square to visit and to enjoy.

The church was built in the Romanesque style with some Gothic elements, during the 13th century. Its interior is like an art gallery, with so many fascinating works on display that you will need a couple of hours to explore them in all their glory and details!

This church is not the main church, but IMHO it's more interesting than the cathedral! The paintings are very interesting and show, on a much smaller scale than Uffizi, how local artists matured from the one-dimensional medieval work to the more sophisticated Renaissance stuff.

I want to go to Sunday Mass while I'm in San Gimignano. I would especially love to go to Mass in the Duomo- Santa Maria Assunta, but of course I will go to any of the churches in San G. I am having no luck searching out Mass times or schedules for any of the Catholic churches in San G. i would love to know if there are any special services with chanting or vespers for examples. I am a practicing Catholic and love to attend Mass in the beautiful churches while visiting. I will be there the second Sunday in Novemeber- 11/8/15.
I will also be visiting Siena where I hope to attend Mass for All Saints Day 11/1/15. I read there is a special bread made -"Pan co' Santi"
Thank you for any suggestions, info etc....
I would especially love to attend the Tridentine Latin Mass (Extraordinary Form) if anyone knows where one can be found in San G or Siena!
