Beautiful church a must visit in Assisi
12/2020 • Pariskunnat
Beautifully decorated and maintained church that’s split into the upper and lower sections. The lower section where the body of Saint Francesco was buried, no photography allowed. The location of the church elevated among its surrounding is super instagrammable. The frescoes on the walls are partially restored snd tells the stories of the Saint during his life devoted the the church. To catch an amazing birds eye view of the church among the hilly surrounding, be sure to visit the Roca Maggiore during sunset.

Nice Mass
12/2019
We attended mass in the higher basilica. It is a beautiful church as you might expect. From here you can visit other parts of the basilica such as the lower area and crypt.

definitely a must visit
12/2019
Amazing church form 1200. Destroyed by an earthquake few years ago and subsequently rebuilt. The structure has two parts a superior and an inferior one. My pictures show only the superior one.
The inner part is covered by amazing frescos and some paintings are thought to be by Giotto himself and many more florentinian painters.
Definitely a must visit for everybody.

Visit St Francis
12/2019
This magnificent Basilica is the place to find the crypt where St Francis is buried. The building is the feature of the Assisi skyline and seeing it at night is not to be missed. There is a huge courtyard outside with an appropriately large lit Christmas tree. Inside as well as the crypt there are many beautiful side altars and artworks. There is a chapel in the courtyard where Masses in English are said on big feast days like Christmas day.

Holy Place
11/2019
It´s definitely a holy place but I would suggest for those who visit it to look for those times and dates with very few tourists. You can have different feelings and emotions. It brings you relfection, emotions but when you stop to see people´se behaviour besides yo uwith total lack of respect for the place you can get really disappointed and upset. There should be a higher level of monitoring and security to restrict some behavious.

Well resored
12/2019
The upper church ceiling has been restored to its former glory after the devastating earthquake of 1997. Yes that has been 20 + years, but the damage was severe. This shrine is the jewel of Umbria

Amazing

A must-see while in Assisi. The Basilica is very accessible even with large crowds. Frescos and architecture are beautiful. There are two levels and it is worth your time to really explore.

Amazing Place
10/2019
This was my second time to the basilica. We started in the church and enjoyed it. We walked downstairs and toured that floor and then went to the tomb of Saint Francis. It has a different feel that many churches in Europe because it is more than a tourist attraction. It is certainly worth a visit and Assisi is a beautiful town to see.

a must see in Assisi
9/2019
St Francis is the single reason to come to Assisi for many people. The Basilica dedicated to him is fantastic. The building itself, but the fresco's and the paintings on the ceiling are among the best in the world. Words cannot describe the beauty of it Underneath the basilica Superiore, the remains of St Francis are kept in a ver beautiful chapel. A must see. We went twice in 2 days.
