About
The Design Museum Brussels, established after the acquisition of a private collection by the Atomium, is a place dedicated to design and its history. Since 2015, the museum's collection, The Plastic Design Collection, circumscribes the landscape of plastics in design from the 1950s to the present day. Alongside this collection, in September 2020 the museum opened Belgisch Design Belge, a new permanent exhibition space dedicated to Belgian design and its history. Enriched by a programme of temporary exhibitions, the Design Museum Brussels also explores other fields of design creation and its impact on society and our daily lives. Through exhibitions, guided tours, workshops, conferences and events, the museum aims to ensure that design is intelligible to one and all.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I would have come here anyway though it came as part of the joint Atomium combo. No surprise that those who care about preserving architecture also care about preserving other art & design forms. The plastics collection was really good with decent explanations in English about each design group or designer. The video as were especially good & helped bring it alive. The LGBTQ graphics exhibition was also absorbing. . Good shop with lots of design and art books and gifts. Spent a couple of hours here.

After shunning the Atomioan tour and the over-priced 'Mini-Europe' I visted the cheaper Design Museum option.
A mistake.
This is a low-quality and frankly, boring museum. And I am someone with an arts background who knew something about the items on display.
Much of the museum seemed closed off / empty. The layout and exhibit items are mostly uninspiring and there is little in the way of interaction.
I wish I have paid more and gone to Mini-Europe instead.

Visited this as it’s included in our set ticket to mini Europe etc. it is so boring. It’s like visiting a IKEA shop with furnitures and chairs, but at least in IKEA you can try out comfortable sofa, chairs, and here, you just see different plastic products that are lacking inspiration and stories.

We had a day in Brussels and decided to go to the atomium and mini europe- both great by the way- and noticed that with are tickets we got free entry to the design museum. It was two relatively big rooms with funky chairs. It was quite interesting but we where done in 10 minutes (especially as not much of it is in English) so glad we got it free. Definitely don't pay €10 for it!

The Plastic Design Collection in itself is worth a visit, but the BELGISCH DESIGN BELGE is just not fair to the rich tradition of Belgian design. Generally, the interior design of the museum (or rather the lack of it) is a disgrace given that this is a museum of design in one of the richest cities in Europe.

This was good. Some nice exhibitions, one of which was a fun game to play. But it could’ve been more impressive. Would’ve liked a lot more and something a bit more striking and awe inspiring.

The museum is focused around plastics. There’s nothing wrong with the museum but for me there’s only so much interest in plastic moulded into different objects. Nevertheless seeing 3D printing in action was interesting as was some of the historical objects.
I wouldn’t make a special journey to see this but if your visiting the Atomium it’s worth a visit as it’s so close and included in the price.

I thoroughly enjoyed the design museum.
Their collection on plastic is amazing.
Full disclosure I do thoroughly enjoy interior design and furniture. If that’s not your thing you may enjoy it less.
We bought the 17€ ticket at Atomium that includes the top of the Atomium, the Atomium exhibit and the design museum.
We found that to be good value for money as we wanted to go the design museum (10€ on its own) and were also interested in the Atomium.
There was also another exhibit in the design museum but it appealed less to us than the plastic section and we were short on time so didn’t go in. Was very different subject matter so maybe a little something for everyone.
