    Huge impressive church
We had walked to and from our cruise ship and passed this church en route. It’s also known as St John’s Church and is a huge building -impressive inside and out. Well worth a quick visit

Very beautiful and under-rated church in Helsinki
I'm pretty sure that this is the most under-rated church and attraction in Helsinki. Not only it is located in a very beautiful area (Punavuori) surrounded by amazing architecture, the church itself is massive and it is also very beautiful inside the church. It has two very large and tall towers, which you can see from far away. In my opinion this is a must visit when traveling in Helsinki.

    Impressive architecture
Lovely red brick Gothic style church. Interior is much more interesting than the bigger cathedral with splendid vaulted ceilings. The main entrance window is stunning. Keep an eye out for the impressive gargoyles.

Also known as St. John's Church
The church can be seen in the city from miles away . It's red colour and medieval look makes it even more attractive. It is a massive church and it's truly a work of art. The interior is even more gorgeous than the outside. It has beautiful chandilers, and stained glass windows. If you are lucky you might get to sit and and listen to organist practicing. It is a definite must-visit.

This grand church sits in a delightful neighborhood worth exploring. Stop in and you might be treated to an organ concert

Finlands largest stone church was designed by A.E.Melander in 1891 on a hill where Midsummer fires used to be burned. This tradition nowadays loosely connected to St.John the Baptist is still the seasonal highlight at summer equinox. The interior is rather opulent for Evangelic-Lutherans decorated with Italian wood carvings, grand chandeliers, stained glass rose windows and an altar piece by renowned painter Eero Järnefelt. Renovation is due to finish in Autumn 2022 but the church is open under the scaffolding.

The Church (a/k/a, St. John's Church) is a nice place to visit, even though it is relatively new (c.1891). Unfortunately, we did not have an opportunity to enjoy concerts, which, as we heard, should be very impressive.

A bit away from Helsinki center the Johannes church is to be found, it can be seen on long distance. The 2 twin towers are 74 meters in heigth and very special for this church. It is build in red bricks and copper roof in the years 1888-1891.
It is the largest stone church in Finland by seats, it has 2.600 seats.
There is a good akustik and therefore it is also used for concerts.
The church is open daily from 10-15 and is closed during weekends and therefor we could unfortunately not go in:
But a beautiful church.

This church is one of the symbols of Helsinki, but make sure you visit it when they have music concerts -- it's something very special.
