This place is absolutely beautiful! You can walk around the duomo and from every side the view is just as beautiful!
Extra tip: visit the shop Coins and go to the 3rd floor. There is a cafe with a beautiful view over the duomo!

The Rotunda
2/2020
Also called " La Rotonda " because of its round layout, is a Romanesque co-Cathedral stand next to the New Cathedral. It is a beatiful Romanesque round church built in the 11th century.
You can see the level of the oldest square of the city if you look beside the church.
Many level can be seen upon entering the Cathedral togheter with a heatvenly backgrouund music and a pleasant smell of incense. At the entrance you can see the red stone sarcophagus of Berardo Maggi (1245-1308) bishop and first lord of the city
The circular core of the church is far below the entry point and gives you the immense size of the circular part. Many finds from the old early Cristian Basilica are visible in some display cases as the ancient crypta even further down, it is the oldest Christian find in Brescia beacuse is dated back in the 6th century.
Going up on the right side you can see the chapel of Guardian Angel with a beatiful painting made in 17th century by Antonio Gandino.
Behind the circular nucleus there are the transpet two beatiful chapels and the main altar all full of frescoes and beatiful paintings made between 15th and 17th century.

Old and new Duomo
12/2019 • Pariskunnat
There's an old cathedral and a new one. The new cathedral is really beautiful. I'm sorry you weren't allowed to take pictures. The new cathedral had a Christmas nativity exhibition.
The cathedrals are closed between 12.00 and 14.30!

Romanesque Rotonda.
7/2019
Both the Old and the New Cathedral are standing next to each other on the Piazza del Duomo in central Brescia.
The Old Cathedral (Duomo Vecchio) is also called:
- 'La Rotonda', because of its round layout;
- The 'Winter Cathedral (the New Cathedral is the Summer Cathedral).
- Co-Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta.
It's a Roman Catholic church and one of most important examples of Romanesque round church in Italy..
Construction of the current church started in the 11th century on the site of a prior church with a basilica layout.
It has a circular shape that became rare after the Council of Trent.
In the 19th century, many additions to the original medieval building were removed.
The entrance portal is one later addition remaining.
It contains the medieval Crypt of San Filastrio, in honor of the beatified Brescian bishop.
Near the entrance, rests the sarcophagus of Bishop Berardo Maggi (1308) made of red marble.
The Duomo Vecchio contains several pieces of art inside and is well worth a visit.
Entrance is free (take notice of the opening hours, because the chirch is closed all afternoon.

History and religion seeping through, over many centuries
8/2019 • Perhe
After the "regular" Duomo, which is quite ok, went into this church. Entry mid height into the church, as the square in front has been raised several meters since the original church. Enter into fully round church, built on even older foundations, not massively decorated but still such an atmosphere and feeling. Crypt is from 838 or so, and again, history and religion seeping through. Must experience when in Brescia!

Not like any other church you will have been in. So much history and the crypt is so moving- you are standing in a place from 838 AD!!!

Unique church, for those who are tired of seeing churches
6/2019 • Pariskunnat
If you are tired of seeing churches in Europe that all start looking the same, this is still worth a visit. Located on a charming plaza, the old Romanesque cathedral is sunken half underground from street level giving it a unique ambiance. Ancient origins can be viewed, and several mosaic floors have been laid fee and made visible. the newer section behind the high altar is presently being restored, but sections of frescoes have been already beautifully restored. The crypt is also with a visit. We were pleasantly surprised by this church.
