Difficult to understand if you don't know Italian
3/2019 • Pariskunnat
I speak several languages well, but my Italian isn't good enough to do the hard brain work needed to get the most out of this museum. Just a minimum of explanation in another language would have helped - for example there were hundreds of photographs of people but with no explanation of who they were. There were interesting-looking objects but without any explanation. And the special exhibition about the March on Rome and the philosophy behind fascism and how it manifested itself in everyday society, would have been brilliant with just a little short synopsis to help us understand the Italian text and the meaning of the illustrations.

Impressive display - interesting Italian historical exhibition
10/2016 • Perhe
I was here on a tour of Ferrara with my two sons (14 and 10) and we stumbled across here - we were glad we did. Whilst of course most of the displays are in Italian, you still get a feel for some of the interesting Resistance escapades, and just to see history before you was impressive. There was a particularly interesting display all about one man and his rise from baby to key resistance spokesman, which was very touching and intriguing. Recommended.

Authentic view of Ferrara's past
10/2016 • Kaverit
Mementoes, uniforms, and documents from the Risorgimento period occupy rooms in the museum, followed by a fascinating record of the city during World War II and the activities of local Resistance fighters. The old newspapers provide hours of interest for anyone wanting to know more about the period and the momentous events which took place during and after the Fascist era

Fascinating museum
10/2016 • Pariskunnat
Loved this museum, especially the room given over to Peace Movement activity. In the other rooms there is a huge amount to see but much is in the form of posters, clippings and other written material all of which is in Italian of course. So if you don't read Italian well this is lost on you beyond the images. There are many other items in display cases as well so don't be entirely put off by that. Uniforms, weapons and other items are all to be seen. Well worth a visit.

Fascinating collection

This is not a place just to dip into - it requires effort to get the best out of it. The first part of the display is about the unification of Italy in the mid-19thC. More relevant to many tourists (and to academics looking for sources) is the section on the Italian resistance during World War II, and the interim governership of the Allies (notably Field Marshall Alexander) pending the passing of the baton back to the Italians. There are hundreds of facsimiles of posters, decrees, newspaper cuttings, and photos, mostly contained in loose-bound volumes sorted out chronologically. I could have spent all day there. My Italian is not good, but there is plenty of material in English. An unexpected, and moving, experience.

Small with some interesting items
9/2016 • Soolomatka
This museum is quite small, with I think about 4 rooms plus an entrance hall. There are uniforms, weapons, a gas mask, and everyday items necessary for a soldier's survival, such as flasks. There is one piece of artillery in the front yard. I thought the various types of hand grenades were quite interesting. The documentation room had posters about Pellagra, a disease caused by malnutrition, manifesting as skin lesions. Quite nice to learn about that.

Interesting

A small museum with nothing explained in English. One of the benefits of visiting is to see the inside courtyard to Sociedad with those blank walls that face the streets in Italian towns. Use a myfe card.

Small but interesting for history buffs
8/2016 • Pariskunnat
The Risorgimento, meaning the reunification of Italy in the middle 1800's, and the world wars of the 20th century are depicted here from the experiences and the perspective of the local population. There are a lot of interesting original documents to peruse as well.

visit to museum
8/2015 • Pariskunnat
This is a museum devoted to local involvement in the risorgimento and the period between and up to the second world war. It really is for native italian speakers (which I am not).

Interesting display of uniforms and posters - but there is too much material for those with little language and time to peruse all the documents.
