There were 4 of us plus Johnny and Edgar. Edgar was in the water with us the entire time showing us around the reef. We saw rays, eels, turtles and lobster which unfortunately were out of season. Swimming with the sharks and rays at Shark Alley was good and we never felt any danger. We have been on other snorkel trips in other locations with large groups and just felt like we were being herded around. Johnny and Edgar made it very personnel and assisted our wives with their gear we had brought our own.
We were picked up and dropped off at the dock of our hotel which was convenient.

Spectacular day! Top notch professional service. Highly recommend for families. We are a family of 4 with a special needs child. Our guide Johnny was so amazing we booked a second snorkeling trip. The snorkeling was the best we have ever done. Stingrays, turtles, barracuda, sharks, and more. The crew was extremely knowledgeable. If you like snorkeling then book in with Grumpy and Happy. Unbelizable experience.

If you are into snorkeling, you have to go to the Hol Chan Marine Reserve. It is definitely the best snorkeling spot in the Caribbean. This is easy to arrange if you are staying on Ambergris Cay, not so easy if you are on a cruise ship that stops in Belize City. Belize City is too far from Hol Chan to do a day-trip boat trip. However, it is very easy to do through Grumpy and Happy. They will arrange a Tropic Air flight from Belize City to Ambergris and will pick you up and take you on a wonderful private snorkeling trip to Hol Chan. The biggest worry is getting off the cruise ship in time to make the plane.
Don't worry- a couple of things are in your favor: One, although Belize is a tender port, Royal Caribbean (at least) does not use their own tenders. The Belize tender is big enough to hold all of the ship excursion people plus everyone lined up to get on the first boat. Second, the Tropic Air airport is really close to the port and third, it is extremely small airport with just a single small house. There is no security screening and no lines. We arrived at 9:20 and easily made the 9:30 flight. Also, Tropic Air is fine with changing the flight times. We came back on a 2 o'clock flight, with plenty of time to make it to the port. Although it is pricey, you need to do this trip. It is totally worth it.

Our snorkeling trip was wonderful. Communications for booking were prompt and to the point. We ended up asking to modify our timing and they were very flexible, understanding and accommodating where they could be. Very nice to be picked up and delivered to our resort's dock. The boat was comfortable, Johnny was kind and knowledgeable, provided water and fruit after our first snorkel and helped our tween be more comfortable as she was a bit tenuous about snorkeling with the sharks. Snorkeling on the reef was excellent, Johnny's guidance helped us see much more than we would have had we done it without his watchful attuned eyes. Good outfit!

We hired a private snorkeling trip through Grumpy and Happy for a friends birthday while staying in Ambergris Caye. The trip was an amazing experience! We met our guide Victor who showed up at the dock promptly at 8:30am. We made a quick stop to pay for our entry into Hol Chan Marine Reserve and then were off. First stop was at Hol Chan. We were the first ones there as most of the other guides and group trips start at 9:00. Having the place to ourselves, Victor was able to guide our group of six and point out the many species of fish and other marine life. We saw a large moray eel, which was probably the highlight. But also many other cool things to see here as well! After about an hour of snorkeling, we were onto our next stop, shark ray alley. This was the highlight of the entire week for most of us having the the opportunity to swim with nurse sharks! Victor "wrangled" up the largest of the nurse sharks he called Big Bertha! He put Big Bertha on her stomach and into a sleep/trance so we could see it up close and even touch it. What a cool experience! There was lots of other nice coral to see here as well as a number of rays and numerous species of fish. After about another hour of snorkeling, we had an enjoyable ride back getting to see the south end of Ambergris Caye, while enjoying the turquoise blue water. Doing a private trip with your own private guide is the only way to go. I would highly recommend planning your snorkel adventure though Happy and Grumpy! They were easy to work with, communicated effectively and often, and checked in after our trip to ensure we had a great time. Will use them again if we go back for sure!

We couldn't be more thrilled with the snorkeling experiences provided by Grumpy & Happy! We did half a day at Hol Chan Marine Reserve & Shark Ray Alley in the morning, then we went back to snorkel the area at night, when an entirely different cast of characters come out to hunt. There aren't words to describe how magical it all was, including drinking a rum punch in the boat under the plentiful stars. The next afternoon, we went to Mexico Rocks, and our guide even made us fresh conch ceviche right on the boat for us to eat after our snorkel! The guides are charming, informative and obviously very interested in giving their guests a time to remember. We will forever cherish our experience, it's worth every cent!In addition to the snorkel trips themselves, communication with Jolene & Lorne is easy and thorough - exceptional customer service!

Just spent New Year's with the family. This was an incredible outing. Johnny was our guide in his boat, Johnny's Boat. He was great and really helpful for my 11 year old who was freaked out a bit by sharks and snorkeling. It ended up being a perfect day and as she said later - "it was like being in an aquarium". Thank you. Thank you. Highly recommend.

Johnny picked us up on the dock at Victoria House as we were staying at the Hilton (no dock on property). My husband was in a boot and we needed to make. A few accommodations. They were willing to help us out how ever they could. We saw lots of fish, rays, nurse sharks &turtles. We have snorkels many places and Johnny was wonderful! We had 3 stops and plenty of time in the water, a little fruit & water as well! Joanne answered all my questions very timely! Great private tour!

My wife and I, together with daughter and son-in-law, did their snorkel tour on Christmas Day, December 25, 2018. We were off Carnival Breeze. Took taxi (with taxi driver Sheldon, who took us to airport and was waiting for us on return to take back to ship) to Belize Municipal Airport to fly on Tropic Air to San Pedro, Ambergris Cay. Jolene was waiting for us on our arrival in San Pedro and introduced us to Johnny who was our snorkel boat captain and guide. Johnny was very good and we had a great time snorkeling two very good spots near San Pedro. He cut up some fresh local pineapple - which was excellent - and we had some very tasty grapes. We liked being the only four in our group and Johnny was able to give us very individual attention to show us things in the water. The price seemed reasonable enough for what we received, especially since it was Christmas Day.

Jolene was able to help us get an alternative snorkeling time due to weather even while she was home sick with the flu! That's dedication. Our guides on the boat, Johnny and Raoul, were both knowledgeable and kind. They took time to make sure we had an excellent experience.

We arrive on Carnival in Belize City in January 2020 at 8:00am IF the ship is on time. We will be tendered in can we do the air and full day snorkeling package to be back at when the cruise deports at 5:00 PM. If the ship is late or the tender takes along time( upon arrival) does the airplane adjust for the delay.

Of course not. The airplane has nothing to do with the cruise line. However, flights are frequent and can be rescheduled. Note that in Belize it is not a ships tender, but a much, much larger one run by Belize. You are more likely to get on if you line up early.

I am going on a cruise and will be in Belize. I have snorkeling Caye Caulker and would like to snorkel Ambriges Caye. Is there a trip that can take us there for the day?

How many people do you need for a private trip and the price

My wife and I booked a private trip for just the two of us. I can't recall the price, but I remember thinking initially that it was a little pricey (Jolene also arranged for us to fly out to San Pedro from Belize City). That said, it was WELL worth every penny we spent. We both loved Lorne and Jolene and really appreciated the flexibility that the private tour provided. We were truly able to enjoy the trip at our own pace and didn't have to worry about crowding into a boat with a ton of other people. Either Lorne or Jolene were also in the water with us the whole time and were both great guides. I absolutely plan to book another trip with them whenever we make it back to Belize again. Hope that helps!
What is the cost of this tour please.

We paid about $350 each tour, which was for 3 people. It was maybe $40 more per person compared to a group tour, but well worth the extra money.

I wanted to know about transportation to the hotel. We can get a nonstop flight to Belize City but were told we have to take a second flight to the Ambergris area. Are there other options? Is this a hassle? How far is Victoria House from the airport? Thanks!

Taking the plane from Belize to Ambergris Caye is the way to go. About 20 min's vs 45 or so on the boat. Water normally smooth but if not could start your vacation off on wrong foot. Victoria House arranged the flt from and to Belize for us and they picked us up at the airport. Golf cart is normal transportation. About a 10 min ride. They will take you back at the end of your stay. Grumpy & Happy will pick you up at Victoria's dock. Great people. Enjoy. Bring bug spray. The giggers come out at night. While they spray they don't get them all.
