Gorgeous structure both inside and out
2/2020
We visited Paramaribo for several days in 2012 and were not able to access the interior of this beautiful wooden basilica from 1883. Today, we can see its 144' towers from our stay at the Downtown Oasis Hotel. It's the closest of the 11 designated by the 2002 UNESCO 'Historic Inner City of Paramaribo'. The renovation has been a success and hopefully this work extends to more of the old wooden structures nearby.
Note the large National Folk Music School just across the street.

Superb all wooden Cathedral and Basilica Minor
2/2020 • Kaverit
The Cathedral jn Paramaribo is an airy and dare I say unique edifice. Inside and outside it is all made out of gorgeously preserved wood. For sure the Church has been doing a great paint job over the years! Interesting is the grave of Peerke Donders, the missionary who went to Suriname to fight leprosy. He died in Batavia, Suriname but was reburied in the Cathedral.

Nice building
1/2020
All wooden construction. Very impressive and well ventilated building. The largest church in Suriname. Some of the benches are over 100 years old.

Very beautiful wooden cathedral
11/2019
The outside of large wooden cathedral is nice but the inside is really impressive. We could only go several meters inside because there was church service going on but it was enough to see all the wooden interior.
Note that you need to be dressed modest, else you may not enter.
A donations is expected.

Beautiful cathedral
1/2020 • Kaverit
A very large, beautiful and well maintained wooden cathedral. The interior is well worth a look with the gorgeous wooden arched ceilings and a big suspended cross at the alter.

A European like wooden church
9/2019
It's a must see at openi nghours, when you take a walking city-town tour in Paramaribo. The inner church takes a short visit to get an impression of the katholic part of the surinam population. I think that's more than enough. It's only a short distance between the Synogage, the Mosc Cnd the cathedral

Beautiful Wooden church basilica in South America
12/2019 • Perhe
The most beautiful wooden church I ever saw in my life. A world class monument which I hope will still remains and will kept in good chape for years to come. The location of this Catholic church is near a Mosque and a Synagoge.
Exceptional in the World. A must see in South America.

Old Basilica church
11/2018
This old church is a relic from colonial times when the dutch still occupied Suriname, and there's nothing special about it- nothing that a neighbouring country doesn't have in potentially better "supply".
