Definitely a place of note to visit in the city. If on the weekend I recommend visiting early to avoid the kids on their bikes. At the other end of the park are some ww2 military pieces of equipment. There are a series of walls with names written on them of people and it is quite humbling. Worth a visit/ 10

As always, a city in Russia has a huge WW2 monument. As I visited soldiers were protecting the eternal flame.

For me, the one most memorable feature of the Glory Monument, the World War II Victory Memorial here in Novosibirsk Russian Siberia, is the size of the grounds. The park is immense. I visited on a cold winter day in January. Maybe in the summer the grounds would not seem so vast but in the cold of a winter afternoon they spoke to the vastness that is Russian Siberia.

Friends, there is little glory here in Russia arising from WWII. The price paid in human lives, both military and civilian, was enormous. Gory Monument would be a more fitting name.

The centerpiece of the monument is where the Eternal Flame, with a sad Mother Russia looking down upon it, is present. When I visited, standing at Parade Rest in the bitter winter cold, were 6 to 8 uniformed Military Honor Guards with an Officer In Charge also present. And then (it brings tears to my eyes) looking down on the Honor Guards and the Eternal Flame is Mother Russia looking so very sad at the loss of lives of her wartime dead sons and daughters.

I'm honored to have been able to visit yet another WWII Russian Victory Memorial.

The square of fame may be reached by taking the subway to Karl Marx Square, then walking north on Vatutina Street. Turn left at the stadium and the St George chapel at the southern end of the park will be seen. The Glory monument is at the north end of the park. Military equipment displays can be seen to both the right and left of the central path. The equipment includes; T-34 tank, Katyusha rocket launcher, ISU-152 self propelled gun (beast killer), M30 howitzer, La-9 fighter plane and ZiS-2 field gun.All equipment exhibits were well maintained.

To the left of the main path, in an open section near the equipment displays, are two unique monuments. The first is a border post, painted green and red. There is a stone to the left which states that it is in memory of border guards during the cold war years of 1947-1991. The next monument is dedicated to children who died in fascist concentration camps in WW2. It is a very touching monument that has toy sculptures hanging by chains from a broken arch.

Near to the northern end of the park, is a large upraised sword sculpture with a wreath on it. At each corner of the base, is a monument with Soviet symbols on it. Another monument with a Soviet Star and the names of heroes in gold lettering, was near this area. We didn't get the chance to complete walking through the park, so missed the eternal flame and glory monument. The park is well shaded and a great place to relax.

Good for a few clicks and paying homage to the soldiers native to this region who laid down their lives in the world wars. Best to visit during daylight hours. Took a marshrutka to this place, surprisingly, only the babushkas riding with me knew about this place and offered to point out the bus stop for me...none of the younger lot seemed to know about this place even though they could speak broken English. Same in my country, younger generation don't even know the names of prominent freedom fighters of India, only the older generations or history-enthusiast youngsters, like me, know. And at the monument itself, there was one young couple, busy in romantic activities. There were no other people. It felt very awkward for me to be there alone and taking photos. I saw only 2 old people come by, one man and one woman, who offered flowers there, at separate times. Behind the monument, there is a small park and beyond the park, residential buildings. The solitude of the place was mesmerizing though....the parade ground in front of the monument must be being utilized on 9th May and other important days.

I've been here about 20 years ago, as a student, and it was so impressive to see this glorious monument large square, that recalls the proud sovietic soldiers who fought against the nazism during the second world war, and at the end of the square the billboard of the CocaCola, it made a sense, a strange one. Anyway the site is very moving, the names of the fallen heroes killed in the line of duty and a special thanks to those whose name has been forgot, the changing of the guard, and the constant flame coming out of the cracks of the concrete.

every city has a monument to WWII and Novosibirsk is no exception- the large blocks of stone depict the sacrifices and challenges overcome by the 20 million who gave their lives to the effort...Mother Russia is shown overlooking the eternal flame for the Unknown Soldier- wedding parties come for photos...very somber memorial and at same time a celebration of life moving on.

I had just one day in Novosibirsk and visited this memorial, since I have seen many in different Russian cities.

+ memorial in a nice park
+ no costs

- at the end of one railway station and around 20min walk
- there are better memorials around Russia
- no other interesting things around

I would say it's not a must see, but interesting.

This has a war memorial with the fire burning all year around in commemoration of the soldiers who died in the II World war. On a lighter note there is a interesting selection of war machinery including tanks and plane anyone can climb upon ))

It is a great place! There are several monumets with the name of the people who died in the WWII, some tanks and planes. The central part of the monument is the eternal flame. Where every single day there are people who "protect it". It is interesting to watch them to change. I believe, they suppose to change every hour.
And of course it is always something happening there during some anniversaries or events which connected to the WWII.
