This is an interesting look into funeral habits of the Romans.

The necropolis of Carmona is a very interesting area for everybody interested in history and traditions. When we were there, a flock of schoolkids with their teachers were there enacting old Roman rituals, and we saw them again in town, enthusiastic and playful with their spears and shields. What a great way to teach children about history and tradiitions. The graves of the necropolis are very varied, some small and shallow, others deep and grand. And the entrance is free.

Age

Worth a visit due to its age, but otherwise a bit disappointing as not well explained or set out. However don’t miss the painting on the tomb of Sevilia and the elephant tomb. T

Interesting site, slightly different to the usual Roman remains.

The site is a Roman necropolis, tombs dating from second century BC to fourth AD. There is a self-guide route round which takes in all the important vaults. A large unexcavated amphitheatre is across the road from the necropolis.

Nice place for Roman Ruins

I came here as part of a day tour to Cordoba. We stopped at the Roman ruins for about an hour. They are quite interesting, but I would only stop here on the way to Cordoba for a short while. It definitely would also pay to come here with a guide. Otherwise, you would just be looking at some ruins and not understand much about the significance.

Carthaginian and Roman

Carthaginian and Roman archeological history are the local focus. This strategic hilltop has been important for a long time.

Superb Town
7/2016 • Pariskunnat
Carmona is a stunning hilltop town just off the motorway between Córdoba and Seville. The old town is really beautiful with white houses built around the churches and historical buildings. Best time to visit is morning or late afternoon/early evening. During siesta nearly everything closes except a few restaurants and bars. In July heat was very intense over 40 degrees. We ate in a restaurant at the top of the town as there was a very welcome breeze. The museum closed during siesta but lovely place for drinks/snacks and very reasonably priced. Lots to see, really clean with good facilities. Very uncommercialised and we were amazed at how few tourists were there. If you are around Seville or Córdoba a wonderful place to visit.

In southern Spain you can visit some of the most interesting Roman ruins in the world...this is an excellent example. The place is hard to find but you can ask at the tourist office. We visited it after lunch, which was a big mistake: it was incredibly hot!!!! However, at another time the visit worth it

Worth a visit

Go to the tourist office in the walls of the city and ask for the information on this and the other sites in the town. The ruins are well worth a visit as is it is worth climbing the tower by the tourist office - remember if you are over 60 Spain offers lots of discounts on attractions.

Don't miss the cinema, it is fantastic the way they bring the ruins to life. Well built museum. Take a drink with you on the bus trip as facilities on the hill are limited.

We had a guided tour which is part of the entrance fee. This is a 'must' visit. Very interesting and rewarding.
