Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Was here for a late lunch after visiting the National Civil War Museum. Had chicken and mashed potatoes, salmon and sausage stroganoff. Food was good, service very good and meals came out hot and fresh. A local hangout bar with good atmosphere.

The Pub Burger was AMAZING! Has to be in the top 3 to 5 burgers I've EVER had! Service was friendly, but for a group of 7, we had to sit in adjacent 4-person tables - the space is too narrow to put the tables together, but it worked out fine, so for larger groups, it wouldn't work. Well, that's not quite true - on the opposite side, ALL the tables were put end-to-end to accommodate a group of about 20 people which is why we couldn't do the same. Still, the food and beer was worth that minor issue.

Food was phenomenal. Had the Creole Salmon with dirty rice and the vegetable of the day (broccoli). The place looks kind of unassuming, and I was just trying to get something to eat - I went in blind. I was really fortunate.

What is an Irish Pub?...Guinness in all its variations etc. Well, McGrath's has added some ethnic attractions and made them Irish. Those of you who have read some of my previous reviews will know that I dote on hush puppies, so, Irish Hush Puppies...no kidding and just about the best I have ever tasted. Corned beef and cabbage and mashed potatoes deep fried (see photo) in scrumptious balls and served with 1000 Island dip. A taste to remember. Well if you're into latke or potato pancakes ya gotta try an Irish Boxty. Again corned beef and cabbage mashed potatoes and some very nice cheese and fried to a crispy serving...best potato pancakes around. And all this is just around the corner from the Harrisburg State capitol off 2nd Street. Sure you can get Guinness and Harp and cider on tap, but what about mussels in Harp? The Irish can replace wine in any form with excellent beer and we're all the better or it. So if you're passing through Harrisburg plan on getting there in time for lunch or dinner...you won't be disappointed and all at reasonable prices.

Downtown Harrisbug, small "local" pub, tables and room at the bar. TV's for viewing what's on sports wise. Friendly and attentive staff, good selection of beer, wine and cider....comes out cold and delicious. Also, it comes in FULL pint glasses and that's always good! Had the Duck boxty, came out fresh and hot, delicious...sort of like a seasoned stuffing with the duck on top, with a side dish. My wife had the Fish & Chips which was also very good and unusually was salmon, instead of the usual cod! Huge portions. Parking in a lot across the street....which was free for us after 5PM on weekend....other times, not sure?

McGrath’s Irish Pub in downtown Harrisburg was destination for lunch on Friday 11/29/2019. Black Friday this year was a cold day, and working downtown I was in need of a great lunch to satisfy and warm me up - McGrath’s did not disappoint. I started off with a big bowl of French Onion soup which was excellent because not only was the flavor great, but whatever cheese was on top was cooked to perfection and thankfully easier to eat than most others I’ve had because the cheese was stringy but not ridiculous. My main course was the Boxty Burger which combined with my Guinness, was just amazing. The Boxty Burger is simply wonderful: ½ pound beef, bacon, and fried egg sitting on top of the traditional Irish potato pancake (boxty). The service is great and the atmosphere is cozy. I highly recommend the Boxty Burger - it is a transcendent experience for burger lovers. McGrath’s has a long history of server amazing food - definitely go because this is no ordinary Irish pub.

We ate here on a Saturday evening around 7:00 and it was quite empty, there was only about 10 other people. If I hadn’t read the good reviews I might have considered finding a different place eat. I’m glad we didn’t! The food and service were both very good. My husband and I both ordered the fried chicken, grilled cheese sandwich with tomato and a spicy chipotle dressing. It was a bit greasy but delicious! The fries were homemade and delicious as well. Definitely worth the stop at McGrath’s!

Well, it could take awhile to work my way through the craft beers, and take in whatever golf is on tv above... but that's ok. Hmmm, 1st choice was fantastic, look forward to tomorrow when i can try 1-2 more drafts. Comfortable place, has a menu too if you're hungry, simple and not too loud. Better than I expected.

Found this place by chance while on business in Harrisburg. It was fairly busy for a Tuesday lunch - mostly state worker crowd. Sat at the bar and enjoyed a wide selection of beer on tap - they had an even wider bottle selection. I settled for Smithwicks on tab because I have a meeting later in the day. Ordered a sandwich which was tasty (the Ryan). Service was prompt and friendly. I sat at the bar for about 2 hours as I was in between appointments and was completely comfortable, unmolested, and the staff checked in with me on regular intervals. Didn't feel rushed or ignored.
Would return.

Every time I have to travel into Harrisburg, my must go spot is McGrath's Pub. My trip won't be complete without ducking in there for a beer or two. There are more craft beer selections down the street, but I always find something on draft at McGraths that I want to drink, and I want to drink there. The bar and restaurant exude years of ma and pa, utilizing the tight storefront space year after year to the inch. The upstairs bar is where I always gravitate to, with a great little hodgepodge of rooms and even a small outdoor patio. It's like nesting favorite spots when you walk in and then upstairs.
Their curry wings were on special during one of my visits, and they nailed the curry sauce. It's a great place to grab a bite as well. The previous bartender is now the owner of this establishment, which makes me love this place even more. I love success stories.
