Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The architecture in ruse was very pretty but I was mostly impressed with the amount of pride the locals had in their city. Unforgettable experience.

Stopped into the Info Center to get a map. One man behind the desk playing extremely loud rock music. He turned it off when I entered, then back on when I left. Didn't speak a word to me. I motioned if I could take a map. Don't believe he could speak English - but not really sure. Most everything was in Bulgarian.

Please note - the map and most everything you will see on Bing or Google maps will have modern Latin names, but the actual streets and signage will use the Cyrillic alphabet - which looks nothing like the names on your map. Very confusing.

Very few English speakers in Ruse - including taxi drivers, restaurant servers and even the hotel desk.

When I initially visited during its stated opening hours on a week day it was shut with no indication of why or if it was going to open. I came back later just as a guy was exiting the office and locking it - still during opening hours.
When I asked him why it was shut he told me he was one guy and had another business to run.
I pointed out that the office had a sign showing it should be open and that tourists would come here for information.
He asked what I wanted and I told him a map and some information.
He reluctantly went to the office to open it but repeated the line about one guy and another business to run, but this time added a few swear words.
By this time I'd had enough so told him not to bother.
So in summary my visit here was a complete waste of time and the guy running the office has a lot to learn about providing a service to tourists.
To make matters worse, the other listed tourist office at the town hall was just an automated screen and it was broken!

The lady there spoke great English and was helpful but the place wasn't open long enough. We wished there was more to do in that small town.

The lady was friendly, spoke good English and did her utmost to find answers to my questions. She provided me with a map of the city that was helpful and her information on how to get to the Danube bridge with public transport was accurate.

In Ruse, tourism seems to be something they've heard of but not really experienced themselves - even at the tourist office. Based in Ruse, we had a day to visit the local sites - including a world heritage site (rock-hewn caves at Ivanovo). We needed a way to get there and the Orlova Chuka Cave. There were a few sites along one road no more than 45 km from Ruse that we were interested in. It seemed like it was impossible to arrange. The woman at the tourist information center mentioned a bus, but then needed to make a few phone calls to find out about the bus. Didn't know the number or information to make sure we'd get on the right bus & wasn't sure where it stopped or when. After more research (on our own) the bus would not have helped - still a 5 km walk from the bus stop to the world heritage site & we would have had to come back to Ruse to get a different bus to the caves. Didn't know about tours, though we later found a few online through places like Lonely Planet. Didn't mention the train (though this had the same problem as the bus & didn't go to the caves). Didn't mention hiring a taxi. Didn't know much about car rental in the area - this is the option we finally took. It seems strange to have 4 tourist sites within a few miles of Ruse and not be able to get to them.
