Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautiful spot just outside Otranto. The signage is confusing, but we followed google maps - I recall foot access was via a private road. The glittering emerald water pool set in bright red and ochre cliffs is quite a sight. Quite serene spot, we were the only ones there !

The site was quite underwhelming. We swallowed the hype and went there with eager anticipation. There is no way I would want to swim in that water. It's basically a big hole in the ground. Glad some people love it but I just didn't get it.

We spent a good 2 hours walking to the Cava di Bauxite, around it and back again. beautiful red walls and the sea in the background although the water in the Cava was not blue but green blue. This is basically a nice walk in the country but does not compare to Baux in Provence. If it's wet weather, take wellies!

The particular color of the water contrasts, in a fascinating way, with the surrounding rocky walls which, are characterized by a beautiful intense and bright red.

Just a 5 minute walk from the main road, you reach an enchanted place...they used to quarry bauxite there but it has been closed since the 1970s - I recommend wearing old shoes because the red dirt is very fine and sticks to your shoes, pigmenting them and ruining them. High heels are not recommended here as the terrain is very irregular

If you’re driving it’s barely 10 minutes from town, I walked along the paths by the sea, even better, maybe half an hour. There’s nothing to see apart from the lake and the coloured soil (see photo) but it’s enchanting, and bigger than the pictures suggest. Certainly popular, but there is a reason for that. And the walk was lovely too.

Nice to take a photo. Not too far from Otranto city centre by car. You should visit the lake, it has a interesting beauty. The red soil is attractive.

Grazie

È possibile arrivare a piedi?
