We visited the museum today with our 2 little boys and were welcomed so warmly by the museum staff! You litterly saved our day. The museum is really super for smaller and bigger kids. We wish you a very very good season.
Lost of love from all of us!

Great place for a family stroll

This is a very interesting technical museum for young children (and grown-ups as well). The museum consists of 3 floors with a variety of different machinery to been seen and interacted with. Both fun for kids and their geeky parents :) A nice program for a Sunday afternoon. The third floor is highly recommended because there are many (technical) games to spend a good hour playing with them over there!

Worth a visit.

Easy to get to from Hengelo train station. Only about 5 minutes walk away. You are given a plan of the museum when you buy your tickets at museum. We spent 4 hours here including a coffee break. There were things we saw here that we haven't seen elsewhere. There was something that appealed to each member of the family. Many exhibits were interactive. A member of staff also showed us how some of the exhibits worked and gave an interesting explanation. Exhibits over 3 floors. Lift to each floor. Has cafe and toilets. Staff friendly and speak English if needed. Information about exhibits is in Dutch but we still got a lot from the visit even though we could not read it. A good place to visit in a Sunday as shops usually closed or on a cold or rainy day. I personally would not visit as a place to occupy very young children but everyone else - yes!

Technical heritage of Hengelo. A great afternoon out.

Looking for a place to visit on a Sunday afternoon??? Opens at 12:00 and closes at 17:00. Did not have enough time to visit it all. Too many little gems to get lost in. Suitable for young and old. The older can see all the technical changes and reminisce. The younger get a history lesson. A lot of the information is only in Dutch but that does not detract from the experience. We had a super time looking at all the pressure gauges, engines and electrical tech on the ground floor. Moved on to the first floor to experience telephony and then to the second for a trip down video game memory lane.
It is only a few minutes walk from Hengelo train station. It has plenty of toilet provision and a cafe. For those who need it there is a lift.

Fantastic museum

Oyfo Techniekmuseum, the treasury of the industrial heritage in the east of the Netherlands. Enjoy the growling, tapping, sucking and roaring machines. View the beautiful collection, move machines yourself, operate the interactive globe and play games! Everything is there to make everyone in the family enthusiastic about technology. 7.50 euro is a reasonable price for what you get. Must visit if you are in Hengelo and you like machine technology.

A good museum about industrial Hengelo
1/2017
This museum at the Industriestraat in Hengelo is about 600 metres from the trainstation (backside). You find a lot of industrial heritage about former industrie in the city. Companies like Stork, Hazemeier, Signaal and Heemaf tell their story. For children from about 8 its good.

Running machines
1/2016 • Soolomatka
The ground floor of this museum is mostly filled with steam engines, most of which actually run at the press of a button. I've seen such engines in many places, but it is rare to see them running, and usually you cannot operate them yourself. In this museum you can. Especially the huge engine used on a boat is great. There's also some displays about textile machines. On the higher floors there are displays about radar and related technologies, about the use of chlorine, and about sustainable technologies. And much more. I think they could add sections about the most recent technological developments, such as nanotechnology.
