Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely park area containing the Zojo-ji temple. Tranquill gardens (with restroom facilities) allow for a wander around a number of religious buildings Inc the Zojo-ji.
You can access the buildings (containing amazing deity statues ) & pray/respect.
There are shops to buy souvenirs & the back drop is the towering red & white Tokyo tower

The temple itself is ok but the highlight is the graveyard and related story of the 47 samurai. I had not heard the story before and found it quite captivating. They give you 90 burning incense sticks for your admission price and you place them at the various graves. It made for a memorable visit.

I was wandering around the neighborhood pondering and came across this shrine by accident. Totally worth the stop. While it is not as bombastic as other shrines, it has a lot of character. I can recommend it if you happen to be in the area and would like to give yourself a break from chaos.

    ここは、出世の神様が祀られている有名な神社です。
    石段がかなり急勾配なので、心して登って下さい。ただ、その先には都会のオアシスが待ってます。
Here is enshgning the promation of career god and famous temple.
The stone step is extermaly steep slope so keeping mind set for climing but climing done to the top will be seeing healing things.

A quick walk from Roppongi crossing, so not a bad idea if you’re in the area and want to see something more traditional. Nogi shrine is on the grounds of the former residence of Count Nogi, who was a wartime general and later tutor to the young Showa emperor. He’s better known for his (romanticized?) samurai-style suicide on the day of the funeral of the Meiji emperor. He slit his stomach to die along with his master. His wife followed suit and killed herself immediately after. The building where this happened is still there (you can see the room from outside the windows) plus a stone monument where the items bloodied in the ordeal are buried (yeah, really). From a western mind it seems pretty weird, but someone obviously thought his actions were worthy of recognition, and built the shrine in his honor (kind of like being made a saint, I think).

In Shimbashi we were walking around and discovered this small shrine off the tourist path. Seems to be for locals who stop by as they are walking through the area. It was a nice little discovery.

A very quiet well maintained shrine hidden in the neighbourhood. Shiba Daijingu shrine dates back to the year 1005.

The business offices were built around the shrine. Neat. The shrine itself is small, but the tori gate looks great and provides interesting contrast.

Beautiful temple and garden. Very quiet on a weekday afternoon. Able to enjoy walking around outside and sitting in the temple.

As a place of worship for the people of Japan the oldest after Asakusa, Temple was originally built in the year 824. Here, you can find some interesting things, such as a monument by the first American ambassador in Japan, and also an old ginkgo tree about 750 year at its entrance!

Small shrine adjacent to Shiba Park. Good for a photo opportunity. I visited quickly when spending day sightseeing in the vicinity of Tokyo Tower.

This is one of many temples in this affluent part of Tokyo and this one is well presented and maintained. You will find it on the corner at the back of the Sheraton Miyako Hotel on Meguro-Dori.Worth a look.

Attended an evening mass here during our trip. This church conducts one of the few English masses available in Tokyo. The service was an interesting experience and visitors like us felt very welcomed.
