Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We took our 6 year old Grandson and briefly introduced him to Henry XIV! (Not easy to explain the Reformation to a 6 year old!) The weather wasn’t great and the ground was muddy in places but the ruins are well preserved and the information boards are well placed. Nice little cafe and shop. As we are not from the area we had to pay which is not a problem, as we think it important to preserve these historical places, but we also paid to go into the Abbey House museum plus parking, it might be a good idea to sell a combined ticket if you are visiting both and reduce the price a little. We will return in the summer when the weather should have improved, a lovely way to spend a few hours in the sunshine, lots of areas to explore!

Whilst on holiday in Ilkley we were looking for a stately home to visit and hound this on a Google search. So glad we did. It’s amazing, full credit to Leeds City Council. It’s cheaper than most National Trust places and more to see. We did a combined ticket and did the farm as well, worth it as we saw the baby lambs. Took us about 3.5 hrs all in. Deffo worth a visit

A really, really fantastic museum and more to it than what we first thought. We particularly liked choosing our characters and following their stories with the interactive light boxes. Very reasonably priced and the staff were kind enough to let us stay in the car park after we finished our visit so we could walk to get something to eat.

The venue has improved massively in recent years. We got sky lounge passes which made the whole thing very enjoyable.
Good view from the seats. Well organised

Visited The Time Travel Christmas on Saturday, a truly tumultuous day thanks to Storm Elen. Well worth the visit even so. The family enjoyed their visit to Santa , who along with the Snow Fairy were on fine form. The visit to the House was entertaining as we went back in Time and then raced through the decades to the future. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon enhanced by a lovely chocolate brownie.

Had a fantastic visit to the relaxed santa with my grandson , It was amazing that the elves and santa had learned sign language this year , the music was at the perfect level . The only thing that could be improved was the activities leading up to seeing santa it was too long for special needs children . And more relaxed sessions should be added. Keep up the good work Lotherton! It was magical ✨️

I always feel a bit fed up that Leeds generally charges a fairly considerable admission for its museums, while it’s much poorer relative Bradford does not. Yes, they are run by multiple different organisations, but I really do feel that anything small and local should be free admission, especially if they claim charitable status or run by local authorities? They can make their money with rip off parking and catering to shaft the middle classes coming from Harrogate etc, surely? Education should be free; cakes and coffee can raise funds by overcharging those daft enough to pay, I’ve no problem with that!

That said, this is decent value for money, there is plenty to see, and the star attraction, the Victorian streets, are very well done. Thinking about attractions of the same concept, this captures the zeitgeist of the time better than York museum (far dearer) but not a patch on Beamish (very long drive, expensive admission). The displays upstairs are interesting although not fascinating, and there seems to be a focus on health and toys.

They don’t claim otherwise on their website but I couldn’t find anything much relating to the Abbey over the road or its history? I suppose they don’t want to take visitors off the Abbey itself, but to be honest, with a name like Abbey House and being literally slap bang opposite, I think people could reasonably expect there to be something relating to it? Perhaps I have missed a room or something?

So overall, yes, well worth a visit. It’s not world class, but for a small local museum, the Victorian streets are an exceptional feature which make a change from the endless glass cabinets full of old tat which such establishments normally hold.

Very good lattes, would definitely recommend. Nice open area to drink your coffee in and handy for cc. A quiet venue away from the busy areas.

The Leeds Liverpool is 127 miles long, so you have a lot to go at, but the stretch I'm commenting on is the Skipton stretch from the town centre. It's only minutes away you can boat it, you can walk it, you can ride it (bike not horse) a 15 minute walk will have in the wonderful countryside of Yorkshire and then turn around and visit Skipton for something to eat

This arcade is the most stunning place to shop. It has all the best of the high street with each store showing wonderful window displays.

It is spotless, with seating areas and wasn’t busy on a Wednesday morning. The John Lewis is a great one, beauty brands are well covered with a fantastic choice. Still had some great bargains.

Would shop here regularly if I lived closer.
This is shopping with a difference.

This is a stunning building filled with posh shops. It's well worth a visit. Designed by the great Victorian architect Frank Matchum it's worthy of your time.

At the western end of the arcade, above the entrance, stands a foursome of life-size models who are part of the Ivanhoe Clock. Robin Hood, Friar Tuck, Richard the Lionheart and Gurth the Swinehead are all sporting exceptionally short tunics.
