Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
Learn more about our review moderation.

What travellers are saying
- David NBrisbane, Australia1,705 contributionsThe cathedral is beautiful from the outside and also worth exploring inside. Maybe not as huge as some of the cathedrals but definitely has some eleganceWritten 16 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Charles SNorthamptonshire, UK1,051 contributionsLocated on Bailen-San Pablo street, Iglesia de la Magdalena is a Catholic baroque style church built between the late 17th and early 18th century. It's similar compared to many other churches of this type except for it's main feature, the Macarena statue of the Virgin Mary.Written 28 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 649001Springfield288 contributionsThis a small but very beautiful and richly decorated church. On the exit you can step on the grave "The worst man G-d ever created" (Don Miguel Mañara who could be a prototype of famous Don Juan).
Make sure to find church opening hours since it is closed in the middle of the day. Allow less than 1 hour.Written 23 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is nice but not something you need to see at any cost. Only go if you are actually walking by outside, otherwise let it go!Written 15 April 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jenrodtamworth england65 contributionsIt seems as if not many people actually go inside, but it is well worth it. Beautiful and gilded. The courtyard seems always to be full, with locals lighting candles. It makes you feel a bit of a voyeur, but they don't seem to mind that tourists stand and watch.Written 17 March 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Christine BHouston, TX2,859 contributionsThe Iglesia de Santa Ana de Traina (4 Euro admission for two), built in 1276 in the Gothic-Mudejar style, was a small but lovely church well worth a quick stop if you’re “into” churches as I am (and as my husband patiently endures). It is located in Triana, the "scruffy, working class" area of Seville which has a lot of character.Written 27 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - alanbLewes, UK472 contributionsAdmittedly it is not easy to identify which door or bell you should use to get in but once you have parted with your 5 euros you can wander around the convent at leisure after which you can visit the adjoining chapel.Written 28 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - OldjackGreater Melbourne, Australia27,929 contributionsLocated in the San Lorenzo area of Seville ,we had often walked by when it was not open but this time it was. The church is not that old but interesting inside and out.Written 14 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - permiaIreland40,931 contributionsIt’s a dramatically impressive place of worship. Extending back to the 14th century and built on the site of a previous mosque, it has the attractive Gothic-Mudejar architectural design.
A gorgeous façade, a tower and two marvellous doorways in ornate carved stone all further impress.Written 26 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. When I was there all the others in the room seemed to be there for religious reasons, and it's easy to see why. The intimate space and powerful art could easily evoke strong religious feelings.
I have read that the chapel is now open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I had no trouble finding and entering it. It is on the south side of the Plaza Nueva, near the east end of the Plaza, just south of the tram stop. It is clearly marked with a sign outside the door. The only source of confusion might be that the Tripadvisor map puts it in two places, on north and south side of the Plaza. The south side location is the correct one.Written 9 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - AquinasmagisterHatfield, UK381 contributionsThis church is situated on a busy shopping street in central Seville
It is well kept and prayerful. It’s a church of the carmelite order (discalced branch, the branch founded by Teresa of Avila in 16th century. ) it has a Marian museum attached which is worth a visit to look at the history of Marian piety and devotion.
In some ways this church is completely over the top to English sentiments. Types (and quite beautiful tiles) are everywhere as is high baroque florid decoration and dresses statues. Multiple statues of the Virgin and Teresa of Avila and John of the Cross are to be found, and a shrine to SAN Expedito which draws much devotion
But I found this prayerful, restful and charming and it is well worth a respectful visitWritten 19 December 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Left my bags at the bus station across the road from the train station.€4 for a locker. About 20mins nice leisurely walk across the park and past nice cafes.lots of interesting sights and history in the the mezquita itself.also other historical sights nearby.if tired to walk back, There's a bus from there back to the station.Written 6 March 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
