A really set of old church building blended together. Its free (with a donation), has a museum and shop so definitely worth a visit. Its set in a pretty and small piazza. Check timings for entrance as part of it is a working church. Spend the time (1-2 hours) to walk around and take in the history, plus enjoy a coffee in the lovely piazza - before or after.

    Nice 360 degrees of Bologna.
Worth spending a couple of hours up there.

A beautiful church, free on the day to visit. Some beautiful alcoved statues to religious icons. A serene and peaceful place that you must see. Thre are optional things and just need to make sure you time your visit right. The ceilings in the alcoves are beautifully decorated.

A small museum inside a small museum. Worth visiting just to see the Teatro Anatomico which has amazing wooden carved statues of famouse medical men of the area from yesteryear. A beautiful and unusual room with fantastic wooden carvings and decor throughout. The rest of the museum is ok, not a must do for me, but definitely worth seeing. I can imaging in the summer it will be packed and lots of queuing.

My husband did the museum and the factory tour (we travelled a very long way to do it). He bought some merchandise and basically was like a kid at the show. Highly recommended if you are 'into' motorbikes. Great visual display and great history.

Tucked away in the heart of Bologna and overshadowed by San Petronio and Santo Stefano is this beautiful Baroque church with a Romanesque facade that contains the mortal remains of Saint Dominic, founder of the Dominican order.

Outside, there is a large piazza containing a statue of Saint Dominic and two tombs with room to walk, and sit to admire the front of the basilica.

The chapel where the arc containing his remains is highlighted with three statues carved by Michaelangelo. All around the church are wonderful pieces by Lippi, Reni, Todeschi, Torelli and a host of others. If you are an art lover, you can spend hours here admiring the works without the large crowds at San Petronio or Santo Stefano.

The church is not terribly large, but it is beautiful. It appears that tickets are necessary for only the fascinating sculpture to the right side of the main altar and for the oratorio. The oratorio is open until 6:30pm (18.30), but the last admission is at 6:00pm (18.00).

This tactfully and beautifully presented memorial to the victims of Itavia Flight 870 is absolutely worth seeing.

Decent art museum worth visiting if you have time and appreciate art. A lot of religious based work fills the museum. Easily get round in an hour or spend longer with audio guide.

This building is the biggest and main library of Bologna. In addition to all the usual Lindsay activities, the building interiors are very attractive and also hosts several exhibitions. The Sala della Musica or Music Hall is part of the Bologna UNESCO Bologna City of Music. We saw an exhibition on the history of popular music in Bologna.

There's also an exhibition on the history of urban development of the city with a projection show on four walls and personal testimonies.

By far the most beautiful pay of the building is the atrium that's just opens up the several floors of the library. Each floor of stranded around the rectangular of the building and opens up to the atrium with loggia like balconies.

The science and art is alright but the coolest might be various works and documents about the city that the museum owns and (often) does not exhibit. A glimpse at the maps, models, and figures about the University and urban Bologna was not enough for me. We can just imagine the items that were 'not there' by hiding, ignoring, and (of course) destroying hands of the museum.
The occasion was a casual visit with a family visiting my home in Bologna. A morning weather greatly enriched the visit in October. In fact there was an added layer of curation "Ulisse Aldrovandi, the renaissance" in that period, which was fine apart from seeming like an obvious fundraising/kick-starter to attract certain local foundations.(fwi. Aldrovandi was born in Bologna.)
A very underrated geography/navigation collection is at the very end. And what kind of person places that next to the exit! While it is extremely tempting to pass the anatomy collection, but I will strongly recommend the reader to visit this part first. If not, (chances are) not more than a few minutes could be spent there (or even miss the whole thing!). There is clear downside of this type of renaissance-minded holistic collections.

Cattedrale Di San Pietro a.k.a. Bologna Cathedral is dedicated to Saint Peter and is the seat of the Archbishop of Bologna. Most of the present building dates from the 17th century, with a few parts from the late 16th century. There was already a cathedral on the site (on the present Via Indipendenza) in 1028. This church was destroyed by a devastating fire in 1141. It was reconstructed, and consecrated by Pope Lucius III in 1184. The campanile is the 2nd largest in the city.

Was impressed with thr scale and displays at the museum. There is an app to follow along in multiple languages and we had no trouble understanding the information. Good mix of visuals and sound. Really surprised by the collection of puppets and the mini display on mortadella was good fun.
