Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We spent 4 nights in May in San Gimignano and our hotel was located in the Piazza della Cisterna. It is a beautiful, medieval square, which now has a few bar/restaurant/wine bars and a few ice cream shops. It was lovely to have a drink or snack at any of the terrace bars, especially in the evening. Be sure to try the ice cream at Dondoli!!

Climbing all those stairs was really worth it, and a bit fun, since they never seemed to end. The views are impressive. A no go if you have heart issues, but otherwise it's a must-see if you are visiting the city. The museum is also very interesting.

Having spent lots of time in San Gimignano we have wonderedwhat it would have looked like when it had its original number of towers. Here is the answer... a superb clay model 'village' that fills a large room. Fascinating.

This is our second time in Sam Gimignano, but our first time touring the Duomo. The interior frescos were beautiful and it is worth the time to visit.

Lovely example of a San Gimignano house to explore that is beautifully presented. Unfortunately you can’t climb the tower but there is a very interesting video with English translation that tells you all about the town’s history and is a great introduction.

The small square is right outside the main church. It’s was around 515pm when I got there and everything seemed to have closed at 5. It’s r pretty cool how old everything is.

Nice place to visit when you arrive on the city
The museum is tiny but so nice
You can climb to the tower top and discover the superb Toscane environment and the UNESCO village

This site is a short walk from the center of town. It provides a nice view of some of the towers, as well as the area surrounding San Gimignano. Takes only a few minutes, so why not?

This church is easily accessible all year round but is more peaceful in early mornings. The winter months see less tourists and so give the visitor a more tranquil experience.

Torre Salvucci Maggiore is one of the some towers located in the old town of San Gimignano, a fantastic medieval town in Tuscany Region, in the center of Italy. It is a private building, but nowadays it is possible to enter and go up to see the wonderful views of the town. Also, from the top you can see the brother towers only few meters far. Great views! I think that it is possible to rent this tower to stay diring some days, so the inner part is decorated as a hotel and each little floor you can different decoration: very curious, very interesting.

The city wall of San Gimignano was build for defensive reasons and surounds parts of the city. You can walk along partly and you have a nice view down on the landscape of Tuscany. As the city lost its importance after the Middle Ages, it is kept quite in orginal condition. The conservation status of the wall is good. So I recommend you to walk at least a part of it.

This is an old city gate. I was here at night and it really popped with the lights on it. The whole city and street behind it also looked like you transported in time.

I was pleasantly surprised bu the number of young people walking the via francigena. It was peaceful and serene and everyone respects the quiet that that surrounding nature inspires. Absolutely beautiful to walk among the vineyards, olive trees, thick wooded areas and paths.
