Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

You’ll get a good introduction to 20 th century Finnish history in the house of its first president. His life spans the time of czarist Russia up through WW I & Ii. The museum is his home right in the middle of the posh embassy neighborhood. Have a delightful stroll after through the neighborhood and to the park down ro the sea

We visited this place during our first trip to Helsinki. We like northern design. The special exhibition with carpets is amazing. The standard collection with design examples is also very interesting. The building is art on his own.

It is a very nice experience visiting this museum. Some dolls like Micky are not representing their fictional characters in my option. However, many of them are so finely made that you will fell like passing through a journey to your childhood.

We were lucky enough to be here on a day when admission was free, but I believe this is actually part of the Military Museum on the island.

This is an older and smaller submarine than others we have seen. It held about 20 crew members and was used to patrol the Gulf of Finland from 1933 to 1944.

Finnish history during World War II is complicated. The Soviet Union invaded it in 1940, but the Finns bravely held off for several months despite being vastly outnumbered. This submarine actually sunk a Soviet Merchant ship. It was retired as a result of a cease fire and post WWII politics, but then converted into this museum some time later.

Entrance is easy through the side. The space inside is tight, but we walked through without difficulty. We thought that this visit was extremely worthwhile. We really came away with a feel for what conditions would have been like on board. Space was very tight even for a crew of about 20. They have photos of the crew practically covered in diesel fuel, which probably would have been the norm.

Suomenlinna Island is full of natural beauty, attractive historic architecture, and unusual sights such as this submarine. You likely won't stay long here, but you'll gain an appreciation of what life must have been like in a submarine.

I really liked the museum grounds and building. We visited for Van Gogh although I must admit that was slight underwhelming as it mostly featured only his lithographs and early black and white sketches. Still worth the visit and I’d come back for other exhibitions.

The museum has just reopened to better serve families with small children. Now they can play inside a historical carriage either by driving it or acting as the ticket controller with real paraphernalia. For younger kids a printed tram network has been laid on the floor to follow with wooden toy models. Grown ups can learn about the 130 years long history of trams in Helsinki dating back to horse drawn carriages. The free museum is situated at the Töölö depot still in use.

This 19th-century villa next to Finlandia Hall and opposite the National Museum has usually had very interesting exhibitions.

This time there was an exhibition of Jörn Donner’s travel photographs which were found after his death. Film director, writer, and politician Jörn Donner (1933–2020) made countless journeys abroad over the decades he worked as a reporter.

This exhibition has got a lot of attention in the Finnish media and I had high expectations. However, they were not quite fulfilled.

Compared to the other exhibitions at this museum, more effort could have been put into the display. Now it was mainly hanging photos on the wall and some texts projected onto the floor.

The museum was great but the line was a little bit too long. I think logistics could have been better...

Free of charge entrance (surprisingly), in the center near the Helsinki Cathedral. Interesting museum about the history of money, monetary system and finance in Finland and around. Like that, with good examples, not big.
They have a cafe and small souvenirs shop (no coins sold which is surprisingly).
Only minus I see - it is quite dark place - the lights and backlight are not bright at all, sometimes it was hard to read descriptions.

But it is worth to visit, about 30-40 minutes or smth will be enough.

Taidehalli is a small art museum in a pink neoclassical building completed in 1928 in Töölö behind the Parliament House. The exhibitions are changing constantly. The main focus of the program is on contemporary art.

On our visit, it was the final days of the exhibition 'New Perspectives Through Photography – 25 years of the Helsinki School'. There were some quite interesting works from a group of photographers who took part in the teaching program of adjunct professor Timothy Persons at the University of Art and Design Helsinki, starting from the early 1990s.

The Power of Thought is the permanent exhibition of the Helsinki University Museum.

It tells the fascinating story of the University of Helsinki from the founding of the Turku Academy in 1640 to the present day.

At the moment, the museum can be found on the 3rd floor of the university main building, located at Fabianinkatu 33. The entrance is free.

Moving from one apartment to another to acquire more space for his beloved paintings Juhani Kirpilä finally settled on the top floor by the Hesperia Park in Töölö. Colourful life portrayed by Finnish painters of the 20th century is the dominating feature of his collection which also includes older works by Akseli Gallen-Kallela and Ilja Repin. Kirpilä took early on care that his paintings would have a permanent home protected by the Cultural Foundation, which was fortunate as he passed away at the age of 57. Now his home is open free twice a week to "fuel the Finnish people's intrest in art".

The technology museum of Helsinki has two floors. The upper floor is mainly for children. There is a lift between these two floors and the lift is the oldest still operating lift in Finland.

There are some very interesting details in the museum, e.g. old Finnish Nokia mobile phones, Finnish electric cars and old Finnish living rooms. Most texts are in English, too. You may also visit an old sewage farm in a separate building but it is open only in summer. There is a small cafe in the museum.

The surrounding are of the museum is very interesting and beautiful. You find good walking routes and excellent photo spots there.

As an actor I found many interesting things here but it is also very fun place with or without kids even if you are not a theater buff.
The costumes alone are interesting and here you can have a closer peek how professional theater costumes are made.

Children would have tons of fun here and you can actually arrange childrens birthday party here.
