We chose Kailua Beach over Lanikai Beach, as we heard it can be impossible to get parking there. It was a bit difficult getting to Kailua with lots of roadworks in the area. Got a park straight away at Kailua, although it was a weekday afternoon. Lovely big beach and partner even thought he saw a turtle swimming.

The beach facilities could use some upgrades. We changed as quickly as possible as the changing rooms looked really dirty and smelt disgusting. The beach shower was surrounded by sand so it was difficult to wash your feet. Some workmen were moving sand from a footpath, which seemed like a waste of time as it just blew straight back. Would have been better to clean around the beach shower.

A great way to spend half a day, explore nature, and free! The flora was amazing.

Note: you will be tempted to start taking pictures of the mountains before you get too far in to the park, but good news...there are multiple parking lots, lookouts, etc, where you will get killer shots, that will be 100% better.

But, you will still find lots of idiots hanging out their sunroof, stopped on the road, taking selfies (which coincidentally is one of the few rules they ask you not to break).

Otherwise, I'm shocked the local government hasn't started to charge. Recommend taking a lunch and enjoy!

We also took the scenic route along the east coast, back to Waikiki, and stopped at multiple lookouts to the ocean. Just awesome.

We parked at the beach and walked to the trail head which is about half a mile walk. We also went while it was raining, which I don’t recommend unless you have the proper shoes and ready to get dirty.

The hardest part of the hike for us was the trailhead entrance because it was wet and muddy. When you flyer up to the trail there is still a lot of mud but there are also rocks.

The muddy pants and shoes were worth it as the views were amazing. Also being able to see the pillboxes up close is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I found this beach from word of mouth through a co-worker. There are two sides to this beach. There is the public side that is only open Friday-Sunday, and there is the military side which you can only access if you are able to get on military bases. The sand is white and the water is blue. There is also a lifeguard. On the public side there is plenty of space to park and camp, as well as BBQ. On the military side they have a large parking lot with an outdoor shower, restrooms, and a covered picnic area. There were plenty of people here enjoying all that this beach had to offer, but it is so much less crowded than the other beaches of its likeness. If you are on this side of the island I highly recommend Bellows beach as an alternative to the many other public beaches.

There are many great spots to stop when driving along the southeast coast of Oahu and this is one of the best places. Beautiful spot with terrific surrounding scenery. This is a surfing beach. Surf was up when we visited in March, and it was pretty cool to see the locals out doing their thing. There is also a nice vista point along the road just east of here offering a great photo opportunity called the Makapu'u Lookout with plenty of parking.

I drove from Hanauma Bay up the windward side of the island of Oahu passing Makapu'u Point and continued on the Kamehameha Hwy up and around to the North Shore. Many beautiful points along the way including when passing by Kane'ohe Bay. I found a nice viewpoint near Kahaluu Beach providing terrific views of the bay and of the Ko'olau Mountains across the bay which form the backdrop at Kualoa Regional Park.

I hiked this & many other trails on 09/12 during my first visit to Hawai'i & posted a vlog! Search "Nikko Gandia Travels" on YT. Prepare for rock scrambles towards the latter half of the hike to the 1st peak. There are ropes, if needed, on certain sections. I'm not a mountain climber but did not need to use these ropes. If you need visuals for these climbing sections, they're in my vlog. ;) This trail is challenging in a fun way, I can't wait to go back and hike the other 2 peaks. Great views of east O'ahu and the Ko'olau ridge at the summit.

This is a gorgeous beach park!!! The areas of beachfront along the coast once you leave the park area has trees and shade. A real beautiful treat and respite from the heat and heavy tourism of Waikiki! Love this park and will try to visit again in the future!

Attended the park before the luau at Sea Life Park.
We took the arranged transport bus and times were limited. Left at 12:40pm and arrived at about 1:10pm. Luau did not start until after 5pm.
After 1 hour at the park, I felt betrayed and trapped at a very boring park miles away from anything.
The plus was the dolphin and wholphin show at 3:30pm. And the luau was amazing - but not Sea Life park.
This is a small sea life park. I think it would be great for little kids. Easy to get around and not many people.
Tickets to the luau will provide free entrance to Sea Life for 5 days. Sounds good, but after seeing it once, I don’t want to go back.

Lovely local beach park with nice waves, more surfy than the other beaches here. Way less crowded, another World from Waikiki. If staying past 6pm park on street not in lot which gets locked promptly at 6pm.

Located on Waimanalo Bay and adjacent to Waimanalo Beach. This is a very long sandy stretch that doesn't get too busy during the week. Busier on weekends I've read. Plenty of parking. The only negative was the homeless encampment on the south end of the beach and the reports of theft at nearby Waimanalo Beach.

Near Hau'ula, this beach is large, sandy, and just beautiful! We swam here, although the waves were pretty big. What I liked best was that there were very few people on this beach.

This is for the Boat Harbor. He’eia.

Very casual “harbor” for public launching of your boat/kayak and catch private small boat departures. Small snack bar for food and drink basics and a decent hot lunch menu. Six picnic tables to sit down and enjoy your food or just rest with a drink or an ice cream !
