Very easy to get here from Amsterdam and great for people who love to take public transport and trains/trams. It is a lovely scene change from Amsterdam and the fresh sea air is magical. Lots of restaurants along the seaside...take note they each compete with music - which is far too loud - and drowns out the ocean sound.

Having walked to the end of the pier you want the best views, right? Well you've got 3 ways to do it; either A - Bungee Jump, B - Zipline or C - Take the wheel. In the windy off-season with young kids and elderly grandparents, there really is only one option! Its quite expensive - not London Eye level but still quite high for what you actually get. 5 rotations of the wheel which is over quite quickly. You can pay for VIP packages and get drinks/champagne/nibbles as you go round but these were crazy money. If you want to make a romantic gesture, pop to the local Albert Heijn first and pick up a couple of cans and put them in your coat pocket first - much easier, cheaper and if you have to chug them at the end, doesn't feel like such a waste!

So it was end of September when I visited so not too many people about. However, it was still nice to walk out on the Pier to view the sea, the beach and the ferris wheel. Lots of places to eat and drink. Imagine it gets very busy during the summer months. Tram # 1 will take you there from the city and I got off at the Kurhaus stop.

Cosy little museum, where one can see how fishery was done some hundred years ago. Twice a year there is the possibility to buy shells from all over the world from some (inter)national sellers, whole year through you van buy shells from the stock the museum has in the shop.

Already wrote a rating for the Our Lady of Lourdes Cave, Scheveningen center. Did you know this particular location was the exact place where in ancient times the fisher women came together to pray for their men. That they could return unharmed from their fish catches in the North Sea. When the municipality wanted to remove this place, precisely these people, men and women from Scheveningen, protested successfully to keep the place. The RK church became a place for events and meetings, thought the Lourdes Cave it was retained for what it is intended for. I do come here for a very long time. And know that you can experience everything just around the corner, happy visit!

If you know why she is standing there it could depress you. A lot of men died during their work on the sea and this Fisherman's Wife is symbol of all the losses. I explained to my kids what the meaning is of the statue. Interesting to see how they react

This monument, dating from 2013, is a tribute to the fishermen from Scheveningen who lost their lives at sea. The first and last names and the age of the fishermen are engraved on 21 black granite plaques affixed to the wall of the lower Boulevard of Scheveningen over a total length of 25 metres. The first of the 1366 names mentioned dates from 1814, the last from 2008. Almost 120 of these fishermen were children between the ages of eleven and fifteen. The introductory text states that the monument also commemorates the fishermen who died at sea more than two centuries ago or whose names could not be traced. The last plaque bears the coat of arms of Scheveningen. The monument is located at the level of Keizerstraat and the Monument of the Fisherman’s Wife of Scheveningen. More information on the fate of each fisherman is to be found in a special database linked to the monument..

Beautiful view of the North Sea, it is especially beautiful to see the sunset during the summer evenings. Also the view can be enjoyed from many restaurants, the pier or from the beach.
