Such an amazing park, dozen of trails to be taken. Amazing views along the way. I will go again next weekend and probably all the others when here. This was a relief :)

This dam is easy to view from many places but the best is to look at it from rotunda area. It gives unmistakable look at the valley.

Almost no other city can boast such a continuous green belt a city centre in CZ, Znojmo can. This public park (city park), located on the border between the medieval and the modern part of town, is one of the few examples of timeless approach on the threshold of a new era. 17th & 18th Century wars in led to the realization that the old Gothic city walls of Znojmo as modern defensive method are virtually useless against an armed enemy, on the contrary: its reinforced walls and gates proved to be an obstacle for any further urban development. After a fire in 1802 it was decided to demolish the late Gothic Middle port (at the mouth of current Komenského náměstí Kovářské ulice). In 1804 the first and second edge of the outer fortress wall were connected to pne another via a long Avenue which divided present Komenského náměstí into two: up and low. First half 19th century the outer moats were permanently filled and parks extended and. The crumbling wall of the third reinforcement belt with towers and bastions was rebuilt in park and classical pavilions. Due to the creation of the current Pontassievské ulice in 1880-1884 the lower Alley divided the city park into 3 parts: upper, middle and lower park. That is why the city park has such representative buildings: current high school Dr. Karla Polesného or the Czech savings bank (former German Federal Parliament). In the lower park an historic ceramic fountain. The city park is as a refuge a welcome oasis in a busy city as Znojmo is.

Kraví hora is located about 310 metres above sea level, this grassy Hill with thermophilic and rare heathland vegetation was declared a protected area, especially the beautiful views in 180° wide angle on almost all sights of Znojmo city is unique and is being portrayed by many artists (Václav Hollar): from the Hradiště St. Hippolyt church over Znojmo Castle, St. Michael Church, St. Nicholas Church, hanging Wenceslaus Chapel, town hall tower, Dominican Church, Wolf tower, District Court, rail bridge to monastery Loucká and the silhouette of Znojmo. A walk from Kraví mountain to the St. Nicholas Church will take just half an hour. Located southwest of historical Znojmo, between the Thaya Valley and villages Sedlešovice and Konice, approximately 100 meter the valley earth and the hilltop, over which the medieval trade route ran which connected Moravia with lower Austria, this path is nowadays only used by cyclists and walkers. At the hill are reputable old vineyards, on the other side a bunch of small private gardens with mini-summerhouses, a typical relic of a Czech Communist phenomenon. The plateau at the top of the mountain is part of Podyjí National Park and is partly covered with forests and partly with Calluna and subtropical plant species. Sheep are set there to graze, which helps to keep this moorland keep in good condition. The huge plateau is clearly visible from each roof or tower in medieval Znojmo, where of military leaders like to make it to use: winter 1631/1632 (30-years ' war), were here the Catholic forces led by Albrecht von Wallenstein covoked, 1742 the soldiers of Prussian King Frederick the great were stationed here, in 1809, when French guns bombarded Znojmo during the battle of Znojmo, Austrian troops gathered at Dolní brána (Viennese gate) at Vídeňská předměstí (lower suburb). From WW I till 1960s the mountain was often used for military exercise.

This park is actually the southern extension of Karoliny sady. Instead of the buried medieval vineyards a large number of volunteers and philanthropists built in 1824 on a steep rocky slope a new, more intimate Garden called the "Garden of Eden" (paradise garden) inspired by Viennese style, situated under ancient city walls and the Cathedral. Is currently being restored for newly established Urban Wine cooperative, which will grow typical grape varieties for the winegrowing region of Znojmo. The rocky slope did help to connect to the bathing site at the Rabštejn River, which unfortunately was flooded by the Dam.

During the most prosperous period of the interwar the Jubilee park was built 1928 to celebrate the ten-year anniversary of the Czechoslovakian Republic. Whilst the city park was regarded as the domain of the Germans the Jubilee park had to be from the start a symbol of a new English Znojmo (1920 for the first time in the modern history of Znojmo a Czech mayor elected). The project was designed by Josef Kumpán: first the upper park area was established with fountain, artificial rock and Sundial, then the lower portion was established with a children's pool, Garden Pavilion and many flowerbeds, the park is popular refuge relaxation area.
