Nice snow village! It was my first time for skiing and it was good to know that it caters from zero knowledge to pro skiers! Yes, I did my skiing class at Gran HIRAFU however, it was raining then hence I had a hard time.

I booked a Canyoning tour with Hanazono following advices from Mykola, and I can say the tour I had was amazing.
We went on sunday morning and it was safe, fun and we observed a few things with our guide Shogo (gold, fish...). I was stoked when I saw the last difficulties of the day: un big waterfall and a 6 meters jump!!!
I can say it was totally worth it and I am now thinking about booking another tour to experience the Mach3 zipline

We booked via Explore Niseko (transfers from here) for a 1 hr session. We had an excellent time, excellent views of Mt Yotei and a delicious hot chocolate during the session.

    Tip: bring your sunglasses too.

Just an amazing field of flowers with Mt. Yotei in the background. May is the best time to go to see everything in full bloom. The flowers start to fade in color by June. No cost but sometimes parking is hard to find.

A very pretty hike with two river crossings over sketchy wooden bridges, Along the short hike you experience "Komorebi" refers to the sunlight that filters through the leaves of trees. Once you reach the marsh the views open up to beautiful mountains.
With how fast the flora grows in this area the hike can change in two weeks time with different color flowers or just from a forest to a jungle. I've hiked it in winter and spring, it was different each time.

Took lessons with them in 2015 & 2016. Anna was my instructor. Very kind and affable.
First time we stayed at Niseko One Towers, she came over in her van, brought the skis, boots poles and went over to Hirafu side to ski. On our last day, she collected the skis back for us so we did not have to make an extra trip.
For 2016-2017 season, she came over to Hirafu side to teach. Precise clear instructions, able to guide and find out what was wrong and correct it. NOASC offers pretty reasonable prices for ski lessons.
    Thank you Anna!

I admit, we didn't make it to Lake Hangetsu as we were not prepared for the trek. There's hardly any reviews here for visiting during summer so here it is:

This is a proper trek and not a walk in the park. Proper trekking shoes are recommended, and not sneakers, which we had on, as the path can get slippery and trees/shrubs can get in the way. We saw a Japanese couple come fully geared for the trek as we exited the path, and they probably thought we were nuts to attempt it without proper shoes at the very least. However, we did come across a tanuki (raccoon dog) from a distance, so I was a happy camper even if I didn't make it to the lake.

Modern gallery with 2 small exhibit rooms. You can see Mt Yotei from the museum. The staff was very friendly. She made us a cup of coffee each when we arrived.
You get to learn about Shu Ogawara and enjoy his artworks. I believe the museum has seasonal exhibits (you can find out more on their website)--- they were showing the "little dogs exhibit" when we were there.
You can use the ticket to visit the Kutchan Natural History museum opposite the carpark.

It's not "all about the local fluffy animals" - far from it. It has exhibits about life from around the area. Farming machinery, skiing history, education and much more. Trip Advisor said to give it "about 1 hour" but we were there about 2 hours.
Younger children will still find the bulk interesting but for a change, adults got something out of it too.
It's not some half hearted local council or enthusiastic individuals "home made" museum - it's well laid out over two floors. They have an attached shed with overflow exhibits which were great to look over - so go into that shed too or you'll miss heaps!
Use your Google Translation App as only the most basic information may be translated in English.
Well worth the flat 30 minute walk from the main "train/bus" station in Kutchan. Apparently there is a local bus but I believe that's a weekday only - I could be wrong here. It's a short taxi right but the walk was easy and you got to see the town.
The adult 200 yen entrance fee was very reasonable.
If you want to go to the local art gallery (about 100 metres at the end of the car park) then you can purchase a joint entrance ticket.

    Worth the detour.

It's also pretty nice in summer. Get away from the crowds and head into the mountains. Regardless of the weather, you're going to have an epic adventure. Actually a pretty easy hike for the quality of the terrain and snow and the length of the ride you're going to get.

I could't believe that area is one part of Niseko Resort. Quiet, small, but made us so relax.
10 mins walk from JR Kutchan station, as 10mins drive or take a bus from Niseko Grand-hirafu.
Staff can't speak english well but so friendly and helpful. Looks no instructors, patrol.
It was surprised to anyone can use Nordic Ski with Shoes for Free! and the kids sled area was so much fun for kids, with a little thrill. Also it has a little cafe and the food are yum and local price.

    - On time at meeting point. We booked 3-hours Snowboard private lesson AM
    - Instructor Bjorn was super kind and so patient with our skills. He communicated in a slow pace to make sure we followed
    - Started with basics for first time (no board/other similar activities experience) e.g. how to put on the board & adjust gear, how to skate & break at mini slope
    - Walked up a bit to train at the less crowded area. Learned how to stand, balance, and ride both heel edge/toe edge. It was hard for us to make it balance to slow down or control the board. Bjorn showed and explained how to do it before let we tried, he helped riding along with us and instructed what was wrong with current position or what could be better.
    - Even at the end of class, we still needed Instructor to hold hands but the day after when we practiced by ourselves, it turned out that we can do it and made next 3 days snowboard experience so fun! We had a great time and confirmed we made the right decision to have a private lesson for our first time snowboarding.
