Speciality Museums
"il Divisionismo" is a museum space created with the purpose of documenting a period of particular significance for Italian art at the turn of the nineteenth century. It evidences the variety and originality of the pictorial language employed not only by the major protagonists of divisionism, but also by others who voiced expressions of a culture that had been long undervalued. The arrangement of the exhibition centers on the fertile dialogue created by the different masters of a bold technique that succeeded in interpreting the demands of a new century. It includes the socially committed artists of the last decade of the nineteenth century, the tentative essays in symbolism, and also the first experiments by the protagonists of the Futurist revolution, for which the divisionist technique provided the language of modernity. To masterpieces such as A May Morning and The Cut Flower by Giuseppe Pellizza, Piazza Caricamento, The Gulf of Genoa, The Strike, Early Morning in the Workshop, and Olive Trees at Albaro by Plinio Nomellini, I remember when I was a Girl, and Incensum Domino! by Angelo Morbelli, The Sower and Last Pastures by Carlo Fornara, Young Girl Selling Fruit by Emilio Longoni, The Hay Harvest by Giovanni Segantini, The Way to the Calvary and The Adoration of the Magi by Gaetano Previati, When the Little Birds Go to Roost by Vittore Grubicy, must be added other works of considerable originality by less famous artists, like Benvenuto Benvenuti, Galileo Chini, Giuseppe Cominetti, Giovanni Battista Crema, Camillo Innocenti, Giorgio Kienerk, Baldassare Longoni, Guglielmo Amedeo Lori, Serafino Macchiati, Cesare Maggi, Giuseppe Mentessi, Matteo Olivero, Angelo Torchi.

It is a gem of winery located half-way between our drive from Bellagio to Cinque Terre (one hour or so from Milan). We were hosted by the very hospitable owner Elisa who showed us around the vineyards and the wine making operation. This was followed by a round of wine tasting accompanies with their cheese and salami. Since I had to drive, I stuck to tasting their whites only (the pours were generous). The Timorasso wines are the star here - full bodied and delicious on a warm day. The cheese and salami were excellent as well.

Since I was traveling with carry-on baggage, I was able to buy only one bottle of the il Montino and enjoyed it for a couple of days. I will have to look around for it in the US now.

While not necessarily an architectural attraction (although it is a very nice church built in the 30s), Sanctuario Madonna della Guardia is one of three churches you should visit in Tortona (the other two are the Duomo and Santa Maria Canale). Luigi Orione, the priest who helped build this church, was canonized in 2004. Saint Luigi Orione was beloved in Tortona for his good works, including the orphanage and home for the aged that he built next to the church. As you tour the church you'll see sacred heart plaques along the stairway walls, each one attesting to a miracle that a congregant attributed to him. His body is on view in the church, there is a crypt below to explore, and some lovely stained glass. And, of course, there is the 60ft Madonna that tops the cathedral, that women of the parish helped gild by melting down their wedding rings.

I'm sure that on a sunny day visiting the Castello gives you a fantastic 360 view of the area--so don't miss it on a good day. I'd rate it higher if we had been there on a sunny day. We visited on a very foggy day, however, so, we really just experienced the ruins and the nice walk around the perimeter road. There is a QR code that should provide historical information about the tower on your phone, but it didn't work for us. It IS interesting to see how high and thick the walls were and the walk is pretty, even in the fog.

If you're visiting just for the day, this is one of three churches you may wish to visit, the others being the Duomo and Sanctuario Madonna della Guardia. Chiesa di Santa Maria dei Canali is beautiful inside, with decoration added in the early 20th century. The church also includes more historical elements, including columns dating to the 1100s and fresco fragments from the 1500s. It's really quite lovely.

I've been here recently just to see this attraction closer, located on the main road from Tortona to Castelnuovo.
I tried to get on the courtyard I think finding that the tower is not actually a proper attraction being located inside a private property, anyway I was really motivated to see it and try to do it as best as I could, so the time to get few pictures and go away in terms do not get in trouble.
Very nice tower but watching it closer I don't think it is that old...well medieval style but maybe built not long time ago..
However very pleasant to see it.

We were driving from Cinque Terre to Torino and looking for a wine experience, and thanks to previous TripAdvisor notes found Claudio Mariotto. My family and I were invited into the winery like visiting relatives, and sat in a summer room overlooking the massive vinyards flowing down into Tortola. What a view! They opened ten bottles of wine, plates of bread, cheese, and salami to pair with, and enjoyed one of the best wine experiences of my tasting “career.” Six reds, four reds, you can see my tasting notes on CellarTracker under my handle skurtz. Thanks Giovanni for spending 2h with us to experience the wines and share your knowledge of southern Piedmont varietals. The stars of the show were blends and single vineyard white wines of the local varietal, Timorasso. Despite two decades of kicking around the vinyards in the Langhe I was really impressed to discover this ageable white wine from souther Piedmont. Excited to add it to my cellar! Once again thanks to everyone from Claudio Mariotto for the unforgettable wine tasting experience, and to the previous reviewers of Cellar Tracker that helped us find this winery on short notice!
