What travellers are saying
- 761someshgSan Jose, CA7 contributionsIt is a gem of winery located half-way between our drive from Bellagio to Cinque Terre (one hour or so from Milan). We were hosted by the very hospitable owner Elisa who showed us around the vineyards and the wine making operation. This was followed by a round of wine tasting accompanies with their cheese and salami. Since I had to drive, I stuck to tasting their whites only (the pours were generous). The Timorasso wines are the star here - full bodied and delicious on a warm day. The cheese and salami were excellent as well.
Since I was traveling with carry-on baggage, I was able to buy only one bottle of the il Montino and enjoyed it for a couple of days. I will have to look around for it in the US now.Written 30 June 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Luigi Orione, the priest who helped build this church, was canonized in 2004. Saint Luigi Orione was beloved in Tortona for his good works, including the orphanage and home for the aged that he built next to the church. As you tour the church you'll see sacred heart plaques along the stairway walls, each one attesting to a miracle that a congregant attributed to him. His body is on view in the church, there is a crypt below to explore, and some lovely stained glass. And, of course, there is the 60ft Madonna that tops the cathedral, that women of the parish helped gild by melting down their wedding rings.Written 22 November 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JDSC319San Clemente, CA182 contributionsI'm sure that on a sunny day visiting the Castello gives you a fantastic 360 view of the area--so don't miss it on a good day. I'd rate it higher if we had been there on a sunny day. We visited on a very foggy day, however, so, we really just experienced the ruins and the nice walk around the perimeter road. There is a QR code that should provide historical information about the tower on your phone, but it didn't work for us. It IS interesting to see how high and thick the walls were and the walk is pretty, even in the fog.Written 22 November 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JDSC319San Clemente, CA182 contributionsIf you're visiting just for the day, this is one of three churches you may wish to visit, the others being the Duomo and Sanctuario Madonna della Guardia. Chiesa di Santa Maria dei Canali is beautiful inside, with decoration added in the early 20th century. The church also includes more historical elements, including columns dating to the 1100s and fresco fragments from the 1500s. It's really quite lovely.Written 21 November 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Magellano81Tortona, Italy41,158 contributionsI've been here recently just to see this attraction closer, located on the main road from Tortona to Castelnuovo.
I tried to get on the courtyard I think finding that the tower is not actually a proper attraction being located inside a private property, anyway I was really motivated to see it and try to do it as best as I could, so the time to get few pictures and go away in terms do not get in trouble.
Very nice tower but watching it closer I don't think it is that old...well medieval style but maybe built not long time ago..
However very pleasant to see it.Written 22 September 2015This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. My family and I were invited into the winery like visiting relatives, and sat in a summer room overlooking the massive vinyards flowing down into Tortola. What a view! They opened ten bottles of wine, plates of bread, cheese, and salami to pair with, and enjoyed one of the best wine experiences of my tasting “career.” Six reds, four reds, you can see my tasting notes on CellarTracker under my handle skurtz. Thanks Giovanni for spending 2h with us to experience the wines and share your knowledge of southern Piedmont varietals. The stars of the show were blends and single vineyard white wines of the local varietal, Timorasso. Despite two decades of kicking around the vinyards in the Langhe I was really impressed to discover this ageable white wine from souther Piedmont. Excited to add it to my cellar! Once again thanks to everyone from Claudio Mariotto for the unforgettable wine tasting experience, and to the previous reviewers of Cellar Tracker that helped us find this winery on short notice!Written 26 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
