Nice spot to walk along, especially around sunset when it’s not too hot. Quite a few people but there’s enough space that it doesn’t matter too much. Plenty of places nearby to grab a bite or beverage too. Parking off the street is limited, may need to consider the underground carpark off The Esplanade.

Visiting Perth Zoo is always a great family activity for all ages to see all the favourite animals. However our timing was out and our favourite animals were sleeping in the middle of the day. Namely the otters, meercats and big cats. No worries, there were still plenty of other great animals to see such as the penguins, rhinos, zebras and giraffes. The monkeys and apes were still quite active. It was not too hot that day and anyway there are plenty of trees for shade. Thank goodness for trees. The volunteer we spoke to, Margaret, who had been there for 22 years, was invaluable for her help, interaction and information. She knew all the history and changes in the Zoo over time. It is wonderful how the Zoo works to preserve endangered animals going with other Zoos. A great place to visit!

If you catch the Transperth Ferry you will arrive at the Mends Jetty. Instead of rushing off take a few minutes to enjoy the various sculptures dotted around.
The most obvious is the giant yellow Frilled Lizard and Numbat. You will also encounter the Emu statues and a Rhinoceros on the other side of the road.
Right on the waterfront is a cute collection of Meerkats called ‘The Mends Street Mob’
There are plenty of eateries and playground area nearby.

I was doing the 2 bridges walk and chanced upon this towards the end of my walk in South Perth. You can go inside the mill and read some history. It is free to enter and worth spending half an hour here.

Sir James Mitchell Park runs along the South Perth foreshore , taking in Perth's two main bridges, the Narrows Bridge and the Causeway. "Jimmy Mitchell" as he was fondly known was Premier of Western Australia and Governor of the State. The park will be the centre of Australia Day festivities, begining with a monster breakfast, followed by entertainment from 3pm to 7pm. The highlight of the Australia Day festival will by the South Parth Skyworks, always a spectacular fireworks show. to close the night.

We were in the area since we stopped by Gelare for an afternoon sugar pick me up. We ended dup walking around the foreshore area as well since the giant animal like shelter caught my eye.
There are a few of these interesting animal statues scattered around the area. The frilled neck lizard is also visible from the other side of the river and fairly easy to spot. It is well worth the visit to to try and spot these things. There is also a nice grassy area nearby to relax on as well as a small playground. It also has nice views of the city.

The South Perth tram, known as the Ferry Tram, was built in 1899. From 1922 to 1950, it transported excited children from South Perth to the Perth Zoo. The Ferry Tram has been lovingly restored and can now be inspected in the Tram Barn in Windsor Park. People with long memories will recall the tram tracks in Angelo St, in the heart of South Perth.

The Windram Art Gallery is in Mill Point Road, South Perth. It is not hard to find. The art is based on outback themes, such as boab trees and distant horizons. The art is very soothing, just remember that you will be living with your painting for a long time, so you must learn to like it. The gallery is very professionally run, it's well worth a visit.

The Ernest Johnson Reserve is adjacent to the South Perth Civic Centre. It has two ovals, which cover a large area. There's an exercise area for adults and also a children's playground. Access is by Hensman and Sandgate St. It's a favourite for dog walkers; the South Perth Council supplies plastic bags to pick up doggie droppings.

Coode St Jetty is a feature of the South Perth foreshore. Boats tie up here, it's a convenient starting off point to wander along the South Perth foreshore. You can walk west to Mends St Jetty, which is more spectacular. It's around 2 kms (1 mile).

This modest red-brick museum will appeal to visitors who seek to recall the old South Perth; the clop-clop of the baker's horses as the delivered the daily bread, the kegs of ginger beer as community events supplied by Weaver & Lock; the milkman's daily round. South Perth in days gone by may not have been affluent, but in some ways it was riched
