Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The hotel is located within walking distance of the centre of Turku or very close to the bus station if you prefer to ride. Reception staff are courteous and helpful. Everywhere is clean and well-maintained. Breakfast is fine. Wi-fi works.

The hotel promises air-conditioned rooms on their website, but what they do not tell you is that during the hotest summer months (when it would be needed most) the AC doesn't work! The receptionist, quite dishonestly, didn't mention this until after we've paid for the room. They offer no discout or compensation; the receptionist flat out told us that it's not their fault if the AC doesn't work during the hot days!? The only solution they offered us was to open the windows, which, given the traffic below, made for a vary loud and uncomfortable night.

Response from Hotel Helmi, Owner at Hotel Helmi
Responded 26 Oct 2022
We failed badly in this one, and we sincerely apologise for your terrible experience. We indeed had an AC breakdown in the summer of 2021, it came as a complete surprise, and due to supply chain challenges with spare parts, we got it repaired only several days later. Of course, this happened during the hottest season of that summer. We should have compensated for this to you and tried to offer at least some other cooling appliances. We have learned from this by systematising the AC maintenance, preparing backup appliances, and, most importantly, going through with personnel how to act, compensate, and listen better to clients in unfortunate situations like this.

Comfortable room, very good breakfast at the cafe downstairs. Note that the reception has limited opening hours, so contact them beforehand, if you are arriving late. With the low price tag, this is a very good deal. Much recommeded!

Hotel was closed no reception, info to contact someone upon arrival not available, message on voicemail not in English. Management later called me to berate me in English telling me it was all my fault. Had to carry luggage to other hotel and pay for a room. Still waiting for refund.

Response from Hotel Helmi, Owner at Hotel Helmi
Responded 14 Nov 2022
Sounds like nothing went well here and I apologize for the bad service you have received. There´s been a change of owner of the business, so I cannot comment on this one. Also it´s been a long time ago, but hope there was a good ending though. We wish you all the best from Hotelli Helmi!

Great experience at this hotel, everything as described and everything went to plan. I arrived late one evening, since the reception isn't staffed after 7PM I received special instructions as to how to get in and access my room. Everything went to plan and the process was very easy. The room was spacious and quiet, and it had everything I needed. There was a desk, a TV, a private wash room and 2 single comfortable beds. Wi-fi worked perfectly in my room and was very fast. Breakfast the next morning was far superior than I expected after reading some of the reviews on here, a good selection of cereals, eggs, bacon, sausages, pastries and decent coffee. The breakfast is served at a cafe on the side of the hotel that is open to the public, you get a voucher to redeem when you enter and you can choose most (not all) of the options available at the buffet. The staff were friendly and there was plenty of tables. The location of the hotel was perfect for me, right next to the bus terminal (where I caught a bus to Helsinki) and also next to the airport bus stop. There is a McDonald's and petrol station (selling snacks and drinks) opposite and it was only about 10 minutes to walk to the cathedral and waterfront. The next morning check out was easy, quick and the lady at reception was very pleasant and helpful. They offered luggage storage so as long as you pick up before 7PM then you can explore the city during the day without having to drag your suitcase around. No negatives I can think of, the reason I stayed at this hotel was because it was one of the most affordable I could find, so with that in mind it was excellent overall.

An alright hotel, good location (near everything) and nice beds. Quiet at night which is really good. A bit let down was the breakfast — nothing except for a bread for vegans. My partner’s a vegetarian and not much for her to eat either. We had informed about it and thought they’d give us something, but all they did was give me one yogurt. A bit weird for a hotel in a city like Turku which is filled with vegetarian restaurants.

Lady at the reception was a star! She explained all good places to go and things to see in the neighborhood. Room was good size and really clean but on the noisy side. Breakfast was ok. Large parking in the front of the hotel.

I was in Turku on a business trip. The hotel is a 15-min walk from the train station. Location is a bit outside the city center at a central bus/coach stop. So not super cosy. Hotel itself is good value for money. Room was absolutely fine, staff was friendly and helpfull. The breakfast was good. The integrated cafe is open until 5 pm i think and quite good too. Turku is not big but also quite nice.

Very helpful staff and a nice breakfast were the best things about Hotel Helmi. I kinda liked the location by the bus station, which was very convenient for getting to and from the airport. It also isn't too far from the river and its bars, restaurants and other attractions. A good choice overall - shame the windows in the rooms were unopenable. It's nice to have some air sometimes!
