Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Easy 5 stars! Booked this place on a whim after other reservations fell through. Luckily for us, the Scandic had availablity. The hotel itself was clean and modern, and we found the staff to be friendly and accommodating. We'd book here again without hesitation. A+

Great location close to restaurants, shops and the bus stop but the best part is the breakfast. They have a big breakfast buffet that is open until 11 AM. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Will definitely stay here again and recommend this hotel, you won't be disappointed.

Great hotel in a brilliant location for our needs. Area around hotel is vibrant and only 30 min walk from train station. Shops, bars, cafes abundant but hotel is equally pleasant to relax and warm up.

We arrived tired after 3 days travelling by train and boat from the UK, but the friendly, helpful and humorous reception we received from Irven revitalised us both. And, we were soon out in the snow to visit the National Museum. The hotel is conveniently located for walking into the city. It has a contemporary decor without being pretentious. And, it was pleasant sitting having a relaxing drink in the bar area. Our room was charming and we had a comfortable good night’s sleep. The breakfast was a delight especially as there is a discrete offer of gluten free bread etc and including a separate toaster and which was heaven for me as I am a coeliac. We didn’t have dinner as the hotel as the restaurant is closed on a Sunday. But, Irven recommended the food hall next door and we had a tremendous traditional Norwegian meal. Our experience of chain hotels is that staff speak to a “robo” script, and I delighted to say that this was not the case with Irven, Natalia and Amber. They all spoke excellent English and worked with such a supportive and a “can do attitude” The trio are authentic ambassadors for Scandic. The purpose of our visit to Norway was to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. And, we can truly say that our experience of staying at the Vulkan was a sublime start to our Norwegian adventure. We will return!

Very nice hotel with excellent food. Breakfast and restaurant food was very delicious. One of the best hotel breakfast I have ever had. Clean rooms, nice service. Not so far from the center, good communication. Can only recommend.

Vulkan is a nice and modern hotel in the near vicinity of "Mathallen". Good service and a good resturant. Mathallen provides numerous possibilities for lunch and dinner as well. The bar could be more eminent, but provides basic drinks. The rooms are modern and the hotel is in a quiet part of Oslo.

The breakfast here is amazing. I really appreciated the cleanliness, the rooms were on the smaller side but very well priced for what we got. A great view, and the best part about this hotel is that it’s so close to good food at the food hall downstairs. The restaurant itself is great. And you can walk to Grünerløkka easily to shop and experience a fantastic neighborhood. The Vulkan is also right next to a bus line that runs to Oslo central, allowing you to get anywhere so easily. We loved this hotel and the staff were always so helpful. I never write reviews, but in this case I felt obligated to provide feedback on how nice a time I had.

Booked a twin room, got a double room. Nice place to stay when visiting Mathallen and Vulcan Open Air festival. I wouldn't recommend staying here if you aren't doing something locally. I hope we got the worst room, because the "window" was just looking straight into a small courtyard where people often talked loudly into their phones.

Deal lexidh, Thank you for staying with us and for writing a review. We trust you had a nice time at the festival and mathallen. The hotel is located just a short walk from the city center and there is public transportation just outside the hotel that will take you downtown in two stops. We are sorry to read that you did not reveive a view that you might have expected. We are a city hotel and some of our rooms are facing the street, other the park and a few the courtyard. We always take wishes into consideration when we assign rooms but when we are fully booked we have to use all of the hotels 180 rooms and some does not have much of a view. I hope we can accommondate that for a future stay. Wishing you a nice week! Kind regards, Therese Fredriksson, General Manager

Great ambiance, great beds and linen, beautiful showers, very comfortable with enough space and very clean rooms. I loved the experience. I only missed out on room service, and access to food service at the hotel during day time. There was only one Italian restaurant at the hotel which opened up at 5pm and closed 11pm which only serviced pasta dishes and pizza. I wish there were more other choices to choose from while staying at the hotel.

Dear guest jkirke, thank you so much for your beautiful and inspiring review! Team Vulkan is happy to hear that you enjoyed the stay and appreciates evey word you are writing. Our italian restaurant Ferro has more options on the menu, including different salad, classical antipasti dishes and desserts. The room service can be provided by packing the order for take away, but, as you pointed, it has to be picked up by the guest at the restaurant. We do have a Lobby Shop with daily made sandwhiches too. Otherwise, there are planty of the restaurant options just outside the hotel within 1-2 min walking distance. We are looking forward to meet you again at our check in desk. Have a nice day. Best Regards, Service Manager

Overall a fantastic place to stay. From the minute you walk in the entrance, till the minute you leave. The customer service team was friendly and knowledgeable. The cleanliness of every part of the hotel was impeccable. The buffet breakfast was to die for and included everything you could think of!! Once you exit the hotel, it’s a short walk to all public transportation, sites, and restaurants. Based on this experience, we would always stay at a Scandic Hotel if available!
