Worst 4 Star Hotel ever been in and I’m a frequent business traveler. This hotel is not ready to rent rooms and is not a 4 star Hotel. Corridors smelling, no room service, no mini bar, credit card terminal not working, unfriendly personal

Well located in the centre of Acqui this very large hotel can only be described as faded grandeur, but I loved it and felt at home there. The bedrooms and bathrooms are large and comfortable but can be quite a long walk from the lifts. The spa facilities and thermal waters are wonderful with a nice small area to sit out in the sun, and try the massage! Breakfast was quite acceptable and the 4 course dinner with two choices for each course very good although the salad buffet was a bit boring. The staff were pleasant and worked hard but reception was not particularly friendly. Hotel Parking is very limited but there is plenty of on street parking with no limit and free on Sunday. Acqui is a lovely small city with lots of bars restaurants and shops in a pedestrian area. I recommend for a short or weekend stay.

I travelled with my mom and daughter. We stayed at a classic room. It was not modern, but it was ok. The Size of the room was not too small not too large. It had central heating, a tv, a large comfortable bed. The furnishing was basic. There was no coffee maker in the room. The mini bar only had 2 complimentary bottles of water. The bathroom was old but had everything we needed, we bought a heather for the bathroom because it was cold. The room had no wifi. The restaurant was closed. Breakfast was basic but ok. There was a fee for using the thermal pool and no kids were allowed. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The location was perfect.

A beautiful old hotel in Piemonte in need of a lot of tender loving care. The air conditioning didn't function, the opening times and rules of the spa are not aligned with what guests want or need. Open 6sm close 13-16.00 during siesta and open again until 20.00. Breakfast a disaster when 2 or 3 groups of tourists of 20 persons. Dinner when half pension a disaster. We do not want quantity bug we would like quality when it comes to food. Maybe change your concept and serve tapas with wine of beer. Free tapas if you pay for drinks???

2 terrible nights in this hotel during a cycling tour. They had “turned off the air conditioning for the season” and it was sweltering in all our rooms. Absolutely no AC at all and no fans. We had trouble sleeping-noisy outside with windows open and 85+ degrees in the rooms. Management seemed unconcerned. Stay away from this disastrous hotel! Miserable. All other accommodations seemed adequate but entire facility was musty and dingy. Very disappointing.

we have stayed at this hotel 5 times over the years and loved it. Once very glamorous, the lobby is still to die for if you like that sort of thing, and the spa, very nice, but the current management is, how do you say this, not cool. Some of the rooms are very beautiful, but the "new" mattress on the bed is of the cheapest quality. Many things at this hotel are of very poor quality, but this used to be easily forgiven by the price, the quality of service, the kindness and down to earth management. The staff are still very friendly and helpful, but the management now is trying to pretend that this is a 5 star hotel with 5 star pricing. You get the feeling that this manager is caught between new owners and reality. It was a very sad experience for us and we will never go back until our friends in Acquit Terme tell us things have changed.

This hotel used to be a good deal - not fancy but decent, and the spa was an oasis. They have now more than doubled their prices for a day ticket to the spa, and they have created a rule whereby you get only one entrance to the spa for each night your spend in the hotel. So no more arriving and doing the spa morning and night. The new Genovese owners, who have apparently bought up everything in town, are apparently clueless about what made this hotel attractive in the first place. Greed über Alles.

Response from Lorenzo P, Direttore at Grand Hotel Nuove Terme
Responded 10 Apr 2018
Dear Christina35777 Thank you for time to review the Grand Hotel Nuove Terme We don't agree what you have written The new owner plans to build a new history of the Terme of Acqui and the grand hotel is a important point. There are more package and offert for accomodation with a free entry in the spa with a roman path (hot thermal pool 36/37°, sauna, turkish bath and frigidarium area) - you can't agree with a short time to use a spa (now there are 4 hour avaibility for each entry), but the quality and comfort is always guaranteed If you want to come again, we will be happy to show that there is a growth goal Kind regards Lorenzo Perfumo

This hotel was once something grand in the old sense of the word. A place where the wealthy came to "take the waters". It still has some of that charm in the main areas -- an expansive marble-clad lobby, a chandeliered dining room, a charming wood-paneled bar area and of course their "spa", which is charmingly called a "health farm". But the service was really lacking. I don't even expect that much enthusiasm from hotel staff, but the tone bordered on unwelcoming. There was no assistance with the luggage. My fault for over packing, but it would have been nice to have some help. There are elevators, which help, but there are then little flights of stairs on the hallways to negotiate. It's a large "grand" hotel with 142 rooms, but the hallways are long and dreary. The rooms were really uninspired with a Holiday Inn feel about them -- green drapes, green bedspread, green tile in the bathroom. Bathroom products were in individual sized packets, which I found especially odd for a spa hotel. I found the bed to be exceptionally hard and uncomfortable. The breakfast covered the usual things offered, but wasn't as good as any of the other places we stayed. On the other hand, it was very central -- right in the main piazza downtown. The spa area had it's good points, but also some oddities. For instance the whole place closes promptly at 6 pm. Which is about when you might want to begin using the spa after your day ends and before dinner. But the lights go out, the jets go off. It is a hard stop at 6 pm. The spa area is a bit dismal, except for the actual area where the huge soaking pool is. The water is warm, not hot. I would have liked it hotter, but most people liked that it was just pleasantly warm because you could stay in longer. There are massive jets in some areas of the pool which feel great on tired limbs. So having the spa, overall, was a big plus. But it would have been nice to have it open a little later. It may be challenging to find a better hotel in Acqui Terme, but it would be worth looking.

We arrived with a large group, so check-in took longer than expected. They were aware of our arrival and didn't bother to add staff. There were zero bellhop staff which we thought unusual for a 4 star hotel. We dragged our things up to our junior suite on the third floor facing the town square. On arrival we discovered two play pens setup for our little ones, equipped with mattress and bedding. The room was clean and spacious, the bed was reasonably comfortable and the bathroom was well stocked with towels. We had breakfast the next day and it was decent except for the coffee which was the worst we had in Italy. The hotel is located close to everything including a playground which we discovered on our last day. The Good- Spacious room, great view, central location. Marble and fixtures were very nice. The playpens setup for the kids were thoughtful and comfortable. The Bad- Light switches made no sense (maybe a euro thing?), bath/shower setup ensures a flood of water on the floor (another euro thing?), safe requires a key (which we didn't get), no laundry service or iron in hotel. No bellhop. Overall- Decent hotel for the money in a central location. Family friendly, has some nice finishes and views but don't expect the amenities of a 4 star hotel.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel as we used it for a base to visit some great restaurants in the local area. The hotel has a relaxed oldy worldy feel but is in need of a bit of modernisation. The shops in town itself were mostly shut, I guess as it was August, so the only other activity was visiting the hotel's spa. The spa pool was quite modest in size but relaxing and warm from the natural springs. The rest of the spa included a sauna, plunge pool and Hammam with some relaxation areas. We also visited the very large municipal swimming pool about 5 minutes drive away which was good fun. Breakfast was ok - sweet breads and fruit juice etc. The hotel could do with a bit more investment - better wifi, modern hairdryers, better showers in the rooms, but also the hotel isn't overly expensive so we felt we had ok value versus the facilities. Our room was airy and spacious - room 109. Overall would recommend for anyone wanting a quiet night or two in acqui terme.
